Product Description

The Sabrent TV-PCIRC PCI TV Tuner can be used to capture and record Video and Audio signals from S-Video or RCA/Composite outputs, such as VCRs, DVD Players, Game Consoles, Camcorders, and spy cams. Insert the PCI card into an available PCI slot, and your Desktop PC becomes a home theater! Save files to your hard drive or burn recordings to CD/DVD. Watch and record your favorite NTSC Analog TV station, where available; in the United States, this feature is limited mostly to Cable and Satellite since over-the-air broadcasting has migrated to ATSC Digital (see Sabrent model TV-PCIDG). Conveniently surf channels, adjust volume, and record programming with the included Remote Control.

Consumer Alert:

This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna in the United States because of the transition to digital broadcasting in North America. Analog-only TVs will continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. For more information visit the Commission’s digital television transition website at: www.dtv.gov

The principal benefit of this product is in the valuable lesson it teaches not to buy the lowest price item without first taking a good look at the product reviews. I was never able to get the card to do anything. I tried removing and reinstalling the drivers. I tried getting assistance through the web site. I tried contacting the manufacturer and they never returned my phone call. I've decided to cut my losses and buy a different card.

May 25, 2013 UPDATE:
It finally quit working in Win7 Professional 64-Bit. I'm not sure if it was a problem with the software or drivers (maybe both). I had to put it back in my antique computer, but it still works there.

Original Review:

Let me start off by saying this. There are a lot of negative reviews for this Sabrent TV-PCIRC (SAA7130 TV Card), and a lot of what people have written, I have found to be true. I would like to state that I purchased this for transfering my old VHS movies to my computer, then eventually to dvd. I have gotten it to work for this, but it was not a simple task for me. I have not attempted to watch/record live tv/satelite/cable, so I can't really state if the card is effective for those fields.

By now you've probably read through most of the reviews and seen people complain about the instructions, and getting help from the manufacturer. They are totally right. The instruction manual is ultra basic, with just the bare minimum instruction that most people would already know. When you go to the website for any info/updates, the Honestech TVR 2.5 software is no where to be found. It's almost like they are trying to deny that they make it. (Ultimately it was the software that gave me the most trouble.)

Now depending on what model computer you are using, and what version of windows you are running, installation might not be the same for all. I first attempted to install the PCI card on my "antique" computer that I am running Windows 2000 SP4. I also have a Creative Sound Blaster Extigy external sound card device for this computer as well. There was no problem with installing the driver and software. It read everything like it was supposed to.

I purchased this item and was very excited about getting it... I had a previous version of WinTv and I liked it but wanted something new... as I read the specs for this program and card it looked as if I had found what I was looking for. When I installed the card and program nothing happened, I re-installed and the card began to work but the picture was terrible none of the channels matched if something was on 21 it would show 22.... half of the channels wouldn't even come on... I had to do a system restore 3 times to get rid of the program but now there is a warning that comes on when I boot my computer about missing .dll files.... Buyer beware, this is a worthless item... I have tried to get in touch with the seller and I have recieved no reply...BUYER BEWARE !!!!

It's cheap, but I couldn't get it to work. It seems to be a problem with the drivers. I wrote to the company for help multiple times but couldn't pin them down on any clear instructions (e.g., they'd tell me to download the drivers from the internet, but when I responded that I allready did so and it still didn't work they wouldn't tell me where to go from there they stopped responding to my e-mails). I'm pretty computer savvy so if I was unable to get the thing working after several hours I don't think anyone else will be able to either.

This product is junk. It will probably work if you're running XP SP1 but anything later than that, it gets a little sketchy. I initially purchased it because of the cost and I looked and saw that it was compatible with windows 7. Great! (I thought) then I saw that it would work on 64 bit, even better. Unfortunately when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is, and it was in my case. Can't get it to work so I guess I'll have to try a different one.

The video capture card gives me a picture but no sound. I paid only 15 bucks for it and I don't think I will buy another item from Sabrent. I am running an AMD Processor and a DFI: board. That may have something to do with the lack of sound. But in either case, this product is not worthy of my recommendation. Perhaps the people who supply this item to Amazon should do a rigorous test with these items before they send them out through Amazon. The item I received was probably used and repackaged for sale. I have seen this type of thing once before and rather than take advantage of Amazon's options for some products, it would be best to purchase a product from a company directly. Its business. Amazon provides an option for discounts but they should be vigilant.

this product was incredibly disappointing. first off, when you first install it it has to "charge" so essentially this means that its transistors are of such poor quality that they are incapable of working out of the box, and require electricity to flow through them first.
so after about 4 hours when their done charging you will be treated to just how aweful the quality is.
the image that this card captures is very blurry and all the highlight are blown out, as well, the darks never are truly black either. the device's software (included in box) implys that it captures at 480, however due to the blur and faulty highlights and low lights it effectively captures at a usable 240.

also, the company that makes this device, no longer updates the drivers, so it is extremely hard to get this card to work in newer operating systems such as windows 7/8.

couldnt get the remote that it came with to work either.

would never buy again, so dont you either
