I had the Samsung drive mounted & formatted in less than three minutes. Dragging nearly a TB of photos onto it took a bit longer, though.
I ran Blackmagicdesign's Disk Speed Test on the Samsung drive. The attached image shows the results.
The construction is good and my old and new mSATA drives fit firmly in place.
I am inclined to send it back unless someone tells me a way to get it to work reliably with USB 3. (Hint: Sabrent, please let me know if I'm missing something here! )
UPDATE: 2015-11-08 - Well, Sabrent sent a new unit to me. Thanks, Sabrent. As it turns out, I now think I know the root cause of the issue. it seems that the USB 3 cable that they sent out with my original unit was incapable of establishing and maintaining the USB 3 connection. They sent a different cable with the newer unit and it now works fine. I also tried it out with a similar cable I had from some USB 3 2 1/2 inch backup drives (the kind with the combined data/power cable) and it worked just fine. So, if you look at the pictures below, the thicker cable (on the left) is the new one that works. The thinner cable (on the right) is the one that does not work. I hope this helps!
Sending back and going to try a different enclosure from another manufacturer.
With a few modifications, I was able to get a full size type-A male USB connector to fit through the front end and two antennas through the back.

I used a MC7355 aircard with this WWAN to USB card, used a dremel to shave down some of the PCB to make it fit with the antennas and inside of the sabrent case. Everything is a little nice a snug inside of the sabrent case. I'm also using a 6" USB cable to ensure that the card doesn't sit uneasily on the desk or wherever I have it.
Functionality: The case is made with a good quality aluminum, keeps my WWAN card very cool. Has a slight issue with keeping a mSATA card cool. I tested the mSATA component with a Samsung 1TB mSATA SSD and a 256GB Intel mSATA SSD. Good transfer speeds, almost as good as native connectivity with a SATAIII capable card. Is great for very fast, very small, and extremely portable file sharing and mSATA drive diagnosis.
I bought a Apricorn mSATA Wire Enclosure and had great luck with it.

DOA. The light powers up intermittently, but it refuses to allow my hard drive to be read. I tried a known working drive in it, and several systems could not detect a drive. Read morePublished 14 days ago by Richard Meyer
