Hard Drive Duplicator Function
The Sabrent EC-HDD2 its Standalone Duplicator Dock lets you duplicate/clone an existing hard drive without the use of a host computer system, or can be connected to a computer system for use as an external hard drive dock.

To use Hard Drive Duplicator Function

Plug in Both hard drives and identify Source Disk and Target Disk
HDD1=Source Disk; HDD2=Target Disk
Make sure that the USB cable is disconnected from any computer.
Connect the Power Supply to the wall and switch on power.
Press and hold the COPY for about 5-10 seconds until the LED starts flashing.
The cloning process will start.

It actually functions! I was hopeful but not holding my breath on the cloning function. Well, it works! As does the dock feature.

I cloned about 1,700gb of data onto a new drive. I haven't found anything corrupted by the process, and it did it in under 5 hours. Using USB 2.0 and a computer to transfer the stuff would have been a long and tedious task, which I've done before. It's also a dual dock, which allows me to use hard drives without an external drive enclosure. Backing up data is fast and easy.

LED Light Scheme: Solid blue = idle. Blue with a running/moving/flashing green = cloning in progress. Solid green/no flashing = cloning complete!

Instructions: It doesn't come with much for directions. For cloning, initialize the (equal or larger sized) target drive with a computer. Disconnect the dock from the PC, insert your hard drives, and push the 'Cloning Button' twice. NOTE: When pushing the button, I had to press and hold for about half a second for each press. I failed many times before changing how I pressed it before it would work.

After you clone a smaller drive, you may need to go into the Admin Tools 'Storage' tool to "Extend" the drive's space. Cloning a 1tb drive onto a 2tb drive will leave you with the same 1tb of space you had before until you "Extend" the partition allocation.

Super Buy on a Cloner that works!

To give a little insight on how this works as a cloner. You really get no directions beyond basic functions and I see a few people saying it didn't work for them. It works it's just not intuitive and doesn't color code lights and they aren't highly visible when flashing either. Just remember the new disk your cloning to has to be the same size or larger than the original/source drive. To clone an operating system drive.
1. Unit off and insert source disk into slot 1, target disk into slot 2 this will overwrite whatever is in slot 2 so better not get it wrong.
2. Power unit up and leave it disconnected from your PC
3. Push the small button on the back for copy and notice the light begins pulsing. Easiest to see straight on from the front as then you can see the LED's. These will stop pulsing when the clone is finished.
4. My 250 gig laptop drives took about an hour and it was only about 1/3 full.

The new drive boots right up in your system. Win 7 operating system drive cloned.

For simple copying purposes you can use it in windows like any other driver enclosure or clone as stated above for data or an operating system drive. Windows 7 didn't like hot swapping drives in and out while it is was on however turning it off and swapping them and then turn back on worked fine. I suggest powering it off swap your drives and turn back on again and it should be fine. At $30 this is a steal for the cloning capability alone. By the time you do a system load and all the updates and loading your customer software your talking 2-4 hours a PC, cloning will save you exponential time.

It works. UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS

Only used to clone 'up' from 256 to 1Tb SSD (source and target were Samsung 840 PRO). It worked without a hitch and a 250 gig clone took 12 minutes. TWELVE...

HOW TO DO IT:

1: BACKUP. Backup everything important to you that exists on your current machine. EVERYTHING.
2: Shutdown the machine.
3: Pull the power plug from the case
4: Open the computer case and remove the boot drive.
5: Keep the Sabrent device powered OFF for now
6: Look down into the Sabrent device and then gently push the source and target drives into sockets 1 and 2 respectively.
7: Be ABSOLUTELY sure that you put your source (existing-current-soon to be old) in slot #1 and then your target drive in slot 2. If you reverse this you will copy your new empty drive over to your old drive and you will erase everything on it.
8: Push the big power button on the Sabrent. A blue light will appear on the front.
9: Push the pencil eraser sized black "COPY" button on the back of the Sabrent TWICE. PUSH IT HARD AND PUSH IT TWICE.
10: Look for the front blue LED light to kinda sorta start flashing and scrolling and (maybe) changing color from blue to greenish-blue. This means that copying has begun.
11: Don't touch!
12: When the front light stops doing its flashy-scrolly thing (be sure) then the clone is done. Pop the new drive out with the button on the back of the Sabrent and carefully put it (not the original) into your computer case and boot-up.
13: I got an error on the first boot attempt (Win 8.1) saying something like "Windows encountered a problem and needs to restart". I assume this was because Windows saw the change in drive serial number or size or something like that). After that, the machine DID restart and there were no further problems.
14: (Windows only) Go to SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM AND SECURITY>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>STORAGE>DISK MANAGEMENT and then find your new drive. If the new drive is bigger than the source you will see a blue active partition and a black "UNALLOCATED" partition. Right click on the blue partition and select "EXPAND" and a wizard will guide you after that. This will grow your active partition to the size of your new drive.
15: That's it.

P.S. You can't clone the machine for free. By this I mean that you can't take the old drive and put it in a duplicate box and use Windows without paying the licensing fee again. They figured that one out a long time ago.

UPDATE: It works as a USB drive also. If (as I did) you plunk the old drive into the USB-connected bay it won't show up...UNTIL you navigate back to the disk management interface (above). There you will see it with a red exclamation point and the On_Click message "The disk is offline because it has a signature collision with another disk that is online". Just move over the left side of that drive bar, right click and select "Online" and VOILA! Your drive is visible, readable and writable.
