TITLE: Sabrina (1954) • NR • 1:53:35
Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, William Holden, John Williams
Billy Wilder (Director)
This is one of the two movies (Roman Holiday being the other), from early in Audrey Hepburn's career, that made her an international superstar. Watching this movie, over sixty years after its release, it's easy to see why young women to this day are still trying (and failing) to emulate her style, charisma and grace. Watch it and experience the phenomenon that was Audrey Hepburn — oh, and Humphrey Bogart (playing against type) and William Holden (playing mostly to type) ain't bad either. One of the best romantic comedies EVER made. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

VIDEO: 1.78:1 • B&W • 1080p • MPEG-4 (30.6 Mbps)
With this transfer of Sabrina, Warner Home Video has once again shown that they know how to present their movies to their best advantage on blu-ray — particularly for their older B&W catalog titles. This transfer exhibits very-good picture quality throughout — primarily because there are absolutely NO artifacts such as black specks, white dots, hair-lines or dropped frames. In addition, sharpness and detail (though, sometimes a little soft) are, for the most part, usually very-good — and, sometimes (particularly in well-lit outdoor scenes) they are excellent (with textures of most clothing and many faces and hair-styles being readily apparent and natural looking). Also, contrast and gray scale are very-good overall — with the very few dark and low-light scenes looking particularly good. This is a very good transfer, which should satisfy all but the absolute pickiest of viewers.
AUDIO: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 (Mono)
The sound engineers at Warner Home Video have definitely done significant clean-up work on the film's soundtrack, because there are no pops, bumps, and very little hiss to speak of. Also, the dialog is very clear and natural sounding, with all voices being clearly defined and easily understood. However, the transfer's dynamic range is fairly limited, and there isn't any deep bass nor any top-end to speak of (though, the sound effects and musical score sound better than one would expect from a film of this age). Otherwise, considering the age of the source elements and the fact that this is a monophonic, dialog-driven movie from the mid-1950s, this film's soundtrack has good sound quality.
