Knowing something about Sacagawea from history books and a very recent trip to Lewis and Clark National Park (part of Cape Disappointment State Park - go figure) in Washington, I found the book disappointing and incomplete to a fault. It was much too short to cover her remarkable story. It read in part like a soap opera, and it just didn't seem as historically accurate as other books I've read about her. Yes, I understood that it's part of a series which would be complete, but that doesn't excuse the narrative.

My recommendation is "Sacagawea" by Joseph Bruchac, a book we read on the way back from the national park. If you are REALLY interested in the story of Sacagawea and her part in the Lewis and Clark Expedition, I highly recommend the documentary (DVD), "The Spirit of Sacajawea."

We got this book on Kindle and it is a nice option for this format. I like that the book is written in the 1st person POV. It is easy to read and will hold the reader's attention. Since it is only part 1 of 4 there is of course a very unfinished feeling at the end. Not sure how I like the fact that you have to buy all 4 parts to get the whole book; perhaps after publishing the 4 will be offered together as 1 book which I would like better.

I love historical fiction and this book was no exception. Beautifully written in first person, it makes the story of Sacagawea come alive. The author takes great care with historical detail and the dialog is realistic. If you're looking for a way to get your kids interested in history, this is a great book to pique their interest. I look forward to reading the next installment.

This book about Sacagawea is skillfully written! I was immediately transported into the story and felt like I was there. I loved the way it was written in first-person - as if YOU became the character. This book made a part of history that you read in cold history books come alive!!! It's touching, emotional and real - just the way a good living book should be! I cannot put it down and can't wait until the next installment!!! I highly recommend it!!!

I just downloaded this first installment of the book for my kindle, and am having trouble getting away from it! :) It's engaging for me as an adult, and I think will also be at a good difficulty level for our 10 year old son. We've visited several Lewis and Clark sites along the Missouri, but haven't gotten a clear picture of Sacagawea in our heads yet. I think this book will help with that!

Very frustrated that this was represented as a free book. It is not since you are given really only a few chapters. There, it leaves you hanging. I have read free books that are part of a series, and they at least wrap up the story. Then if you enjoyed it you might go and buy other books in the series. I will be deleting this "book" fro my Kindle.

The story is written in a very interesting style, and there are many links to websites containing more historical details regarding the story! A great way to learn more about intriguing American history!

As a homeschooler, I am always happy to find "living books" to teach history. My 12 year old loves history, but books that give an interesting and true understanding of what things were like for those who lived it are hard to find. This one is a winner! Can't wait for the next chapter.
