I first heard this maybe 15 or 20 years ago. I was out jogging and had my Walkman style radio on. It was the captivating music which first caught my attention. Then as Laura Dern began narrating the story I got drawn into it. For years I wanted a copy of it, but I first heard it on Public Radio and their sites are never easy to navigate.
Recently, almost on a whim, I looked for it here at Amazon and to my pleasant surprise, there it was.
It's short, just less than half an hour long, but captivating. The music adds real charm and atmosphere. Just really well done. Great for kids or just something to listen to when stuck in traffic.

Used in in my 5th grade classroom to support the Lucy Calkins writing unit on Westward Expansion. My kids loved it, and it was a great springboard to other topics. Perfect length for a class period as well. Held the interest of 27 10 years olds for 30 minutes. All good!
