Sawyer Reed is a douche bag. He knows he's talented both on and off the field and can have what he wants. Of course he's gotten bored with that and when Gretchen catches his eye in class one day, instead of making smoochy faces at him she makes a funny face and just like that she's on his radar. Sawyer isn't going to stop until he's had her. I had mixed feelings about Sawyer. On one hand, I didn't like how rude and unfeeling he could be, while on the other the nice things he did for no recognition made my heart melt. I liked how he was determined to succeed. He was an unrepentant manwhore and I didn't like how he reverted to his old ways at the drop of a hat.
Of course Gretchen is more than just a hot girl who loves football and can't stand Sawyer, she's got an agenda of her own. I also had mixed feelings about her. She's smart, funny, loves football like I do, and her family. However, she has secrets about those she cares for and even a reason as to why she wants to get close to Sawyer. Of course she didn't expect to feel anything for him other than disdain which puts her in a quandary. I didn't like the way she handled the secrets she was keeping for others. I really believe she should have acted otherwise with the information she had. Perhaps the outcomes of those situations might have been different.
While the scenes between Sawyer and Gretchen are as hot as expected, I wasn't expecting the emotional intensity that came with the book. There are some topics that will hit you in the heartstrings. I will admit to crying at the end of the book. Of course I'm an emotional reader so that's no surprise. Over all I enjoyed reading this book. It's my first Tabatha Vargo novel and I look forward to reading more from her. While this book may seem like the quintessential new adult sports romance, it's not, and has a flair of its own.
I've got to admit Sawyer grew on me as I kept reading but something just didn't click with me.
I really liked Gretchen. She was a strong feisty character. She was holding a grudge with Sawyer and wanted revenge.
I found this to be a steamy read with enough angst to keep me gripped. Gotta say I loved the epilogue.
Sawyer Reed is our resident man-ho, and star quarterback of Camden University. He is arrogant with a capital A, completely narcissistic and does not really care about the women he leaves in his trail. He is cocky and entitled, and because of all these traits, I was hoping to fall head over heels for him in a big way, because these guys usually have big soft hearts hidden in their big hard bodies.
Our cliché virgin, Gretchen Cole doesn't know what the other girls see in him, all she can see is a man who is used to getting what he wants and she isn't about to bow down to him, especially since she has an ulterior motive for getting to know him.
Sawyer decides he wants what he can't have and so he finds ways to befriend Gretchen and slowly he breaks down her walls.
I admit, I did enjoy this story and it kept me on my toes and all, but the actions of Sawyer were just too much for me and I did not really warm to him at all.
Overall, it had great potential, I liked the plot and even if certain parts of it were a bit dubious, it still made for a good read. Had it not been for Sawyer's many indiscretions, I would have rated this four stars, but my enjoyment was severely let down by this turn of events and I never really believed in his true love for Gretchen.
Sacked is a standalone new adult sports romance, told in dual POV.
