I saw Senator Tom Cotton on Fox & Friends. Being a Vet myself, I was fascinated by the Senator’s Military career. He talked about his book, and being a military buff, I purchased his book. I’m half way through it, and I cannot put it down. Well written. In-depth research and his personal experiences being in the “Old Guard.” I strongly recommend purchasing this book.

I have always been in awe of the precision you witness when paying your respects at Arlington. Watching on TV or seeing the respect shown in your local area by the Military when laying to rest another hero who sacrificed in great service for his or her country. Reading with such detail as I have never saw before from a Senator I truly did not know even was a member of the Old Guard has helped this American understand even more how amazing our Men and women are who choose to wear the uniform for our great country of the United States. This Book has been nothing short then spectacular in helping people like me understand just how incredible the Old guard and our Military has been in caring for those that gave everything and have fallen for our great country. The respect of the families who lost a loved one and for the fellow service member that lost a brother, sister, friend. Thank you Senator Cotton for such a much needed book. When I learned that Senator Cotton was writing this book, I did a little online research on the Old Guard and preordered the book. I give Senator Cotton credit for taking the time to tell the story.

The book is hard to read, slow and extremely detailed. I made it through two chapters then went to the Table of Contents and started looking for interesting subjects. I recommend cruising through the pictures. They together with the captions seem to cover the highlights of each area/chapter. The chapter on The Unknowns is certainly worth reading. It drives home the point of the book, the high level of respect that those in the military, hold for all those that have served in our armed forces. A level of respect that should be shared by all Americans.

As I read this, I was reminded of how often I take the service and sacrifice of so many heroes for granted. Living in the Greater DC area, this book has given me a newfound appreciation for the Old Guard and history of Arlington National Cemetery and of the countless heroes on those nearby sacred grounds. Senator Cotton goes into detail of how demanding and intense it is to be a soldier conducting funerals. Having served in that unit, Cotton brings his own experience to explaining how the Old Guard honors fallen soldiers.

I also enjoyed the military history section in the first half of the book.
