Robert “Bubba” Lawson is a good ole boy from Lonesome Point, Texas and has been best friends with Ugly Ross, Tulsi and Mia, the heroine from book 1, Leather and Lace. He’s been debating on whether or not to pursue his dream of becoming a country music star and not just someone who sings at the local bar on karaoke night. But his family has been adamantly against anyone pursuing fame or fortune because of his grandfather who abandoned the family in his pursuit and then abandoned his career for a backup singer. Ever since then, the entire family has stayed on the ranch. Though, not feeling born to be a rancher, Bubba got a job as a lineman for the electric company.
Marisol Medina grew up with dreams of being a country music star herself, but had problems finding music producers willing to take a chance on her brand of Chicano-country style of music. So instead, she became an agent and manager for people with music dreams and right now, Bubba is her most promising and talented client. Everything is great, minus the sexual attraction that they feel towards each other.
Marisol has mixed business with pleasure before and it was one of the worst decisions that she made in her life. And ever since then, her family has had nothing to do with her and she vowed to never mix her professional life with pleasure ever again. So she has to work hard at keeping all business with Robert, completely professional.
But when Bubba is needed back home on the ranch, Marisol decides to go with him and work on the music business stuff and the benefit concert for Old Town with Mia in person. But while in his hometown with his friends, family and clean, open air; she learns that it’ll be harder to keep Bubba at arms’ length and what’s more, she may not want to and finally be ready to trust someone, especially a man, again.
This was a really good, sweet book, but an exceptionally fast romance with deep feelings. Robert is a true man that any woman would be lucky to have. A gentle soul, hard-working, loyal man and a generous exceptional lover.
This book ended at the benefit concert for Old Town. I can’t wait for the 3rd book, Diamonds and Dust, which is Pike and Tulsi’s story.
