Easily the best feature of this brush is that after you brush your cat, you're able to easily remove the fur as one big clump simply by pressing the lever on the back, which retracts the bristles and allows you to pull the fur off the other side. It's pins are made of stainless steel and easily remove loose hair from your pet's fur without pulling or being too abrasive. It's also quite comfortable to hold.
My cat really loves this brush and comes running to be groomed the moment she sees me bring it out! While the metal pins appear sharp, they actually feel just fine and won't hurt your beloved pet.
If you are looking for a great brush to control your pet's shedding, I would highly recommend this self-cleaning slicker brush!

I stepped on and broke my old cat brush. I bought this "Safari Cat Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush" because it looked like a good replacement and had good reviews, but that is where the "good" ends. Using it quickly revealed major design flaws that makes it virtually useless for removing shed hair. As you can see in the attached photo, all its bristles are arranged in single-file rows running the same direction as the grooming stroke. Worse, there are huge 1/8" gaps between each row, much too wide to effectively capture shedding hair. As a result, the majority of the loose cat hair just slips right between the bristle rows and remains on the cat no matter how many strokes you give it.
I wrote this review to help prevent others from making the same mistake in purchasing this brush as I did. Do yourself - and your cat - a favor, instead of wasting your money on this push-button," self-cleaning" wonder, forget all the gimmicks and ergonomics bologna and look for a simple brush with greater bristle density and a more staggered alignment, a design that can actually capture loose cat hair while brushing.
I have 2 cats, will become 3 soon. I have replaced all the carpet in my house into wood floors besides the stairs. The stairs that covered with carpet soon became into their favorite place. There were cat hair all over them. One day I finally realized that I have to brush the carpet, but all I could found was a tooth brush. The toothbrush is so soft and it didn't work well so I tried to use this brush! It saved my carpet!!!!!!! You can see from the first picture! I only brushed the right part, so u can compare it with the left:)
The calico likes this brush a lot and it pulls up more fur faster with less effort than my old nylon pet brush. I was concerned the wire bristles might be too stiff but they aren't. When we got the cat 2 years ago, the SPCA said some scumbag had dumped battery acid on her and she had some raw spots for months. We had to foster her for weeks before adoption. Eventually the areas healed over but the fur never grew back - it's now covered with a very short, downy white fur about 1/4" long. I was concerned this wire brush would irritate those spots but as long as I brush lightly, it's not an issue.
The brush is super easy to clean with the push of the button and gentle on the short fur areas so this is 5 stars for me and my cat. If I ever see anyone do anything like that to an animal I'm going to use a REAL hardware store wire brush on their face.
