Become Acquainted with Our Automatic Locking System
ALS (Automatic Locking System) secures weapon once holstered and easily released with thumb during draw. Raised stand-off surfaces in interior create airspace and minimal contact friction for fast smooth draw.
The Safariland Model 6378 Holster is a concealment version of the Automatic Locking System (ALS ) series holsters. Once the weapon is holstered, it "locks" into place, providing an extra measure of security from standard open top holsters. A simple straight up draw is possible once the ALS is de-activated by the thumb while obtaining a shooting grip. IDPA approved. The Model 6378 holster features an all-new injection molded paddle design that is highly concealable and rides close to body with a slightly forward weapon cant. It also comes standard with the 567BL belt loop, fitting 1.5" to 1.75" belt widths. Additionally, it features suede lining to help protect the gun's sights and finish, and its SafariLaminatestructure with wraparound design provides the strongest design combination available

Late note: I ended up selling the Glock 19 and replaced it with a Gen4 G17 which fits in this holster just as well as the 19 did and works exactly the same so if you have multiple large frame Glocks this maybe a good one size fits all option for you.
Great OWB holster for my G23, I especially like how easy it is to manipulate the thumb release saftey retention lever.
The magic of the ALS is the thumb release. The SERPA is released with the index finger, which naturally puts your finger on the trigger/trigger guard, which may may require some to train around for safety. At least that's what the experts say. That and SERPAs sometimes lock up and make it impossible to unholster the weapon. The ALS's thumb release obviously doesn't involve your trigger finger until your weapon is out and aimed downrange. The release is smooth and intuitive. It's a natural-feeling action that doesn't require any "getting used to." The retention is perfect. You're not getting your gun out of this holster unless you press the thumb release, and it is practically hidden. So if somebody tries to disarm you from the holster, they're going to have a tough time. You have the tactical advantage.
For me, all this spells out confidence. I am far more confident in carrying with this holster than my previous one. The retention keeps my weapon on me and prevents surprises. The natural ease of the thumb release makes my draw quicker and smoother. If you have confidence in your firearm and your equipment, you can focus on what you've got to do, should you have to take action.
I feel so much better about carrying with the ALS. And this transfers to every other aspect of my carrying and shooting.
I'm about 5'6", 160lbs and athletic build. I find that the holster sticks out a bit too much for me to wear concealed under a t-shirt or football jersey. Prints pretty bad. I didn't buy it for concealment, but if you are considering it for that I hope you're a bigger guy. Maybe in winter I could get away with it under a larger jacket, but as far as summer wear goes I couldn't pull it off.
For the tactical users, I also found it fits very well on my ATS padded war belt. The "hook" that keeps the paddle from sliding off your pants, fits perfectly into MOLLE webbing. Very secure, I think it's impossible for it to accidentally come off when properly adjusted. 100% satisfied, actually considering buying another one with the space for a taclight.
I'm 5'9", 185 lbs., and have an 8" drop from chest to waist (43/35) This holster holds the grip of my Glock 23 just barely against my skin compared to the Glock factory holster. The extra comfort is WELL worth the slightly higher chance of printing. I have given up on IWB carry because it was just too uncomfortable. This holster encourages me to carry.
No problem wearing this under a normal-fitting collared shirt, like a Hawaiian shirt or guayabera.
