Become Acquainted with Our Automatic Locking System
ALS (Automatic Locking System) secures weapon once holstered and easily released with thumb during draw. Raised stand-off surfaces in interior create airspace and minimal contact friction for fast smooth draw.
The Safariland Model 6378 Holster is a concealment version of the Automatic Locking System (ALS ) series holsters. Once the weapon is holstered, it "locks" into place, providing an extra measure of security from standard open top holsters. A simple straight up draw is possible once the ALS is de-activated by the thumb while obtaining a shooting grip. IDPA approved. The Model 6378 holster features an all-new injection molded paddle design that is highly concealable and rides close to body with a slightly forward weapon cant. It also comes standard with the 567BL belt loop, fitting 1.5" to 1.75" belt widths. Additionally, it features suede lining to help protect the gun's sights and finish, and its SafariLaminatestructure with wraparound design provides the strongest design combination available

Upon further inspection there is a circular piece of plastic at the bottom of the holster that doesn't allow the gun and light to seat completely down. Unscrew the screw at the bottom and pull it out. And wallah! It fits like a dream. I did have to tighten the retention screw so it wouldn't wobble around. The holster itself is a tad bit bulky but not as bad as my 6280 for a glock21 with x300u. If you are thinking of buying this for glock 19/23 with x300u.... Do it! I promise you will love it.
Anyway, I have this holster mounted to a Blackhawk! quick disconnect male adapter *crowd gasps*. Yes I know the arch rival of Safariland, but I like what I like and this WORKS GREAT. I can mount this anywhere and at any angle I need. Yes, sometimes it is quite nice to be able to swap equipment and easily/quickly change the ANGLE you need this holster mounted. No matter if this is on a belt, cross-draw on the side of the chest-rig, or horizontal in the top middle of a plate carrier. This holster fits onto the 'puck' (as I call the QD mount), with a LITTLE MODIFICATION TO THE PUCK. Simply had to round out 1 of the screw holes to fit and now it works just fine. 2 screws hold it firmly in place, 0 wobble. (see pic for details)
Now I also use Ameriglo Suppressor height sights on my G19, again, this required a bit of modification. I had to take out the latch mechanism (very simple) that locks into the ejection-port, and dremel out the front portion where the front sight would slide through. I basically made it more of a 'ramp' for the front sight to slip over, rather than a kind of 'wall' that it would get stuck on. Now your mileage may vary, but after getting this 'sanded' down, drawing my handgun is pretty slick.
Lastly I use a threaded barrel from Faxon in this holster. In order for the barrel to fit, I had to remove the front plastic barrel protector thingy. Its just a simple piece of plastic that covers the front of the barrel, which wouldn't work with the extra ~.5" of barrel. Simply undid the screw, took it out, put the screw back in. Along with keeping the flashlight cover, I still kept that cuz it works just fine with a Streamlight TLR-1HL.
The other mods I have on my G19 don't interfere with this holster so it isn't worth noting. But if you really care I also have an NDZ 'slide racker' plate, getting to the thumb-release isn't an issue with this attached to my Glock.
The Button Retention system works on this Holster. Even if you give the gun a good pull, it will not come out of this Holster. The angle and the texture are good as well. Price was in line for the quality of the Holster. Glad I made this purchase.
I have been using this holster for a couple of months now and it exceeds my every expectation. The package included both paddle and belt attachments. The holster is rugged, formed from a thick, rigid material that has held up to some fairly hard use. The locking system that retains the firearm is very intuitive. It is released by swiping a small lever positioned right where your shooting hand thumb rests when obtaining a full grip on the pistol. A quick, short swipe with the thumb and the pistol is free to draw. You can also adjust the tension of the holster itself and how it grips the firearm, allowing you to change the friction of the draw to your taste. The inside of the holster is lined with a soft, durable cloth material that protects the finish of your pistol. The pistol with the light attached fits perfectly in the holster; It's held in place securely with no play or movement. I was pleasantly surprised to find out you can even holster the pistol without the light attached and it is held just as securely. It's not a fluke, this is by design. There is a small protrusion in the bottom of the holster that rests just inside the end of the barrel that both holds the pistol firmly in place and allows the retention device to work without the light attached. Awesome!
The Safariland 6378 ALS is the perfect open carry holster for me. It's a rugged design, holds the pistol relatively close to your body, offers effective weapon retention, and accepts the pistol with or without a light attached. I highly recommend this holster.
