It weighs a ton, but will never succumb to the weight of my books that's for sure.
Also, Safco's customer service is fantastic. I lost some of the shelving brackets when I moved and I emailed them. Within 24 hours a rep emailed me back asking for the part numbers I needed and sent them to me FOR FREE.
Here is the easiest and BEST method.
The CRITICAL point to realize is that this shelf unit can be put together in a way that is not Square or out of square.
If you do not make it square, you will have serious problems putting in shelves, serious enough that the shelves will not mount.
If your configuration requires that a shelf be placed at a height that aligns with ANY of the "X" brace screws you MUST place the screw head on the inside of the rail and nut on the outside otherwise the shelf with Not sit on its mounts, it will sit on a screw nut.
(sitting on the nut can and will cause shelf failure, not enough contact surface area)
Measure where you will put your shelves first and see if it aligns near a brace screw.
I used a carpenters square and corner clamps to put my shelf together.
The corner clamps helped immensely but are not required.
Search Amazon for:
Drillpro Angle Clamp Corner Clamp for Wood Working or Metal Right Angle Frame Vice Welding Woodworking
These are not the exact same model I used but should work the same.
One part of clamp on the rail, other part on a shelf temporarily placed in the middle.
This "holds" square as the screws are tightened. (just like having a second person with a carpenters square)
A very good $13 investment.
BEST tools for the job.

The directions recommend having two people to assemble this. Not sure how many households are going have an extra person willing to help, but if you do it will make the initial setup of putting the top and bottom together much easier. After that, you will need the hands of a 7 year old for putting the screws and nuts together. If you have fat fingers or normal sized hands it is going to require some patience to screw the nuts and bolts together. There are about 64 of them that you will have to assemble.
I am very happy with the final product. Even more so now that putting it together is over. Again, maybe if I had a second person to put it together like the directions stated, I would not have had to tweak and tighten it so the base did not wobble. The anti-skid parts are kind of on the cheap side, but I don't think I will be sliding this around my garage floor anytime soon. I have some large bottles of chemicals placed on these and they are holding steady.
Aside from assembly. Directions were very good. There is no way you could mess up putting this together if you could understand picture directions. The shelves can be placed to your needs for a large or small amount of space between shelves. Once assembled this is very strong and well-built shelf. I give this 4 stars. It would have been five but assembly and the amount of time it takes to put this together with a single person is pretty involved.
Build: It took me about an hour and half to build this by myself (you may save 30-40 minutes with the recommended friend). There are about 63 pairs of nuts and bolts in addition to 16 small plates that need to fastened to the frame. You will want to have a small screwdriver style ratchet socket tool with a 10mm socket to fit into some of the small spaces as well as a large screwdriver (one set for each builder). Some of the small spaces in the top and bottom shelves have sharp edges so you will likely end up with some finger scrapes if you don't wear gloves. Once you do assemble the frame and support bars together, putting in the shelf holders is simple work. It's still a little harder than a normal bookshelf since the shelves sink in and around the holders rather than resting on them, but it makes for a very stable shelf.
Convenience: The bookshelf size is convenient for smaller spaces, but unlike traditional bookcases the shelves won't sag even with heavy items. It has little plastic feet to protect your floor, but these too easily to pop off when moving the shelf, so you may want to consider glueing them on. Once it's constructed you can move the shelves pretty much anywhere, but you will have to fight the shelves off and on their holders a little bit.
Finish: The large flat shelves are sturdy and held secure bags that may droop through wire shelves. It's also crazy sturdy and a little taller than most shelves (you may want to double check that it's not too tall). Overall, it's a very nice shelf... once it's built.
