Safco Products Plastic Step-Operated Hinged-Top Trash Can - 23-Gallon
Start making everyday garbage collection in your garage, workshop, warehouse, office, break room or large home kitchen simple, hands-free and effective.
Put a Lid on It
If you're looking to better contain the stinky smell of the trash, the first thing you want to do is put a cover on the can, right? Well, this garbage bin from Safco Products makes that initial step of odor containment simple by having the lid just be part of the design. Not revolutionary, sure, but certainly welcome, and what makes this lid even better is that you can open it with your foot instead of your hands - keeping the waste receptacle germs further away from your fingers.
Simplify Trash Collection in One Easy Step
Great in large kitchens and break rooms, but also perfect for placement along walls in garages, workshops and warehouses, Safco's Plastic Step-Operated Hinged-Top Trash Can gives you and your employees, co-workers and visitors a reliable, hands-free way to dispose of everyday trash and garbage. The integrated lid helps keep smells contained when shut and lifts easily when you step on the commercial-grade pedal at the front of the base. Take the next step towards a better waste bin today!

Let's Look at the Details
Leave It to the Feet
Nobody really wants to touch the trash can when they're tossing something out, so let's make sure they don't have to. Using a foot, step on the front pedal of the Safco 23-gallon trash can and the rigid connector on the back will push up to lift open the lid. The foot operated fulcrum spares hands from having to get too familiar with the rubbish.
How's the Can Measure Up?
Lend a Helping Hook
Got your trash bag ready? Find the integrated hooks on the sides of the can edge towards the back and loop the bag edge over them. That'll help keep the garbage bag in place whenever you're adding handfuls of refuse to the receptacle.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I was concerned about the reviews that stated the foot lever mechanism keeps popping out on the bottom of the rear of the can. Mine did that after the first week of use with a 16 year old and a nine year old stomping on it. My solution was to drill two small holes through the upright piece and the bottom piece and then put two small zip ties through the holes. The thing has worked like a champ ever since.
We use 30 gallon bags on it and they fit great. So if you want to spend about 10-15 minutes of craft work(which I highly recommend) it'll be a great sized can add you won't have to take the trash out in a daily basis.
Great buy if none of the petty issues I wrote above will bother you.
UPDATE #1 - 8/30/17: As of a few days ago, the foot pedal broke. This was under perfectly normal use, no funny business, a piece of the pedal snipped off and now I'm forced to use my hands to open the lid, thus defeating the purpose of the foot pedal. Seems like weak engineering. Will attempt to get a replacement via warranty and see how that goes (does this product even come with a warranty? lol)
UPDATE #2 - 7/17/18: I sent another email to their new customer service email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and they quickly replaced the broken garbage can. Really nice customer service. For this, I've updated my review from 2/5 to a 4/5.
This can is great. It fits the large kitchen trash bags, when the lid is closed it contains any trash odor, and it is easy to clean.
This can is *perfect* for a large house.
Note: THE ASSEMBLY IS A PAIN IN THE NECK.
You have to press-fit pieces together and bend pieces out of the way to put other pieces together. I liked it so much that I bought another can for my recycling so it couldn't have been TOO frustrating. Also, once you are done swearing and yelling at the engineer who designed this thing- you'll have a solid trash can that you never have to put together ever again.

I still love this trash can. Minor annoyance: it isn't quite heavy enough for it's own good. When the can is empty (or only partially full) and I step on the opening mechanism, the entire can lurches up instead of just the lid. My solution was to put two heavy bricks (wrapped in plastic so they don't absorb any odors!) in the bottom. Problem solved. But still. It was annoying.
I love this Trash Can. It is very well built. I see so many comments about this product and they don't like it for various reason, but the one that gets me all fired up is the comment where they say that the arm / lever in the back keeps coming off. Well, that is a sure sign that they put it together WRONG. If they would just turn that arm / lever in the back around so that the socket at the very bottom is facing out or away from the can, then it will never come off. Sorry, I really don't know what to call it in the back. But everything snaps together for a secure fit and it is very sturdy. I might buy a few more for recycling and for my laundry.
Maybe the included photo will be of some help to those of you with the problem of keeping that arm from falling off.
If you require some other kind of photo, just let me know. Remember, this photo is of the back lever all the way at the bottom in the back.
Additionally, the guide could be much clearer. I missed an important step in step two (before putting the side pieces on the lid, you must connect the lid to the base via middle holes) because it was not very well pointed out. Yes, there are arrows, but they were small enough that I missed them.
Also, attaching the bottom foot piece had to be done PRIOR to the middle long moving piece attaching to the lid. That was by far the hardest part, having to squeeze the plastic together. Again, not great for small hands or those with poor grip strength.
