Computer Security Can be Achieved Even in a World full of Hackers, Viruses and Spam

You can Protect your Computer and your Valuable Information,
Bank Accounts and Photos Without Breaking the Budget or Hiring an Expert.

What if practising a few new habits could dramatically reduce the chances of your system being infected with a
virus or attacked by a hacker? Imagine surfing the web without worrying about the terrors of credit card fraud or identity theft? What if you could keep the bad guys away with a few simple applications?

Security expert and Computer Executive, Richard Lowe Jr, presents the simple steps you can take to protect your computer, photos and information from
malicious hackers, malware, ransomware and viruses. Using easy-to-understand examples and simple explanations, Lowe explains why hackers want to break into your system, what they do with your information, and what you can do to keep them at bay. Lowe answers the question: how do you keep yourself safe in the wild wild west of the internet?

What will you learn by reading this book?

    • What the heck are the hackers trying to do with your computer and your data.

    • How to protect your computer from viruses.

    • The best way to keep your online accounts, including your bank information, safe from hackers.

And many, many other tips and techniques to keep your data, your credit, and your life safe.

    Did you know?

If your computer is not properly protected, even just opening a web page can infect your system? "The link promised pictures of cute cats, so Shelby clicked on it right away. She loved animals, especially cats, and spent a bit of each day laughing at funny pictures about them. Shelby had not patched her system in years which made her vulnerable to drive-by attacks. As soon as the web page opened, Shelby’s system was infected with a particularly nasty virus."

That malicious hackers try to fool you into entering your account and passwords so they can steal your money and your identify? "Bill, a friend of mine, woke up late one night anddecided to check his inbox. He saw an email that appeared to be from PayPal stating there was unusual activity on his account and he needed to login to recover. He clicked the link, entered his username and his password. Afterwards he went back to sleep, happy that his PayPal was protected from fraud. Unfortunately, he fell for a phishing scheme and actually give hackers his username and password. Within a short time all of the money in his PayPal account was gone."

That those Wifi hotspots in coffee shops and elsewhere can steal your information unless you take precautions? "Nathan was in a hurry, and he was happy to find that a new hotspot, called “fast coffee shop” has shown up on the list of wireless networks. He connected to it without much thought and did quite a bit of work. Unfortunately, Nathan connected a few personal sites without using https, and the hacker who had provided the hotspot stole some of Nathan’s passwords."

"I finished reading the book this morning. There was a ton of stuff I did not know about internet security. I use Google Chrome, CCleaner, McAffee LiveSafe, and Anti-Malware. I just started to use HTTPS after reading that page. I really like your BEST PRACTICES. Your examples are easy to read and informative. " -- Robert W. Locke Jr.

This is a review of JA Abate's review of the Richard Lowe's book _Safe Computing is Like Safe Sex: You have to practice it to avoid infection_

There was about 24 letters of useful information in this review. To many sentences that weren't needed. People reading the review will find they already aware of the tediousness, really did not need such a short review of each word. Read the review and you have already fallen asleep.
If you take the 24 letter of useful information from said review it would actually spell out: "It's obvious I am a Mardy Tosser"

As for my review, Mr Lowe has written a book for the layman. Thought out and written for the average computer user to understand. While myself am able to keep my computer relatively safe, there were a number of pointers that I was unaware of and has since incorporated those into my system. I would highly recommend this book to those who wish to protect themselves from computer adversities.

Very informative! I'm just okay with the very basics of emailing, surfing etc.....online security was like a foreign language to me before ordering this book! I recommend it to anyone who has ever had concerns with virus protection and account hackers!!! I feel more confident that now that I am able to protect my interests on the Internet.

I found this book to be very easy to read. It's a great book for non-techies. It's very informative and contains useful information that anyone can use. All the key terms are defined so you know what is being talked about and the subject no longer seems mysterious. I highly recommend this book.

About 24 pages of useful information in the whole book. Too many war stories that wasn't needed. People reading the book are aware of the dangers, did not need a multiple page explanation for each danger. Read his blog and you have read the book.

Lot's of useful well organized information.

This book is written for the average Windows computer user who wants to protect their computer. It begins with a Foreword featuring testimonials from a number of people who have worked with the author, detailing his 35 years of expertise in the field of computer safety. The first quarter of the book simply deals with information and terminology. I was familiar with a lot of it in a vague sense, but the author has a knack of bringing it all together in a simple and coherent way. The author then provides tips and techniques to make your computer more resistant to hackers and data thieves. They include such simple practices as not using public wifi, using a PIN for your phone and tablet, shredding envelopes and documents before throwing them away, making sure no one sees you enter your PIN or password, not posting anything on the web that you don't want to be public knowledge, not using public computers to access personal information, etc.

The author explains cloud storage, backups, and using a password manager. He states that one of the most important things you can do is make sure your operating system is up-to-date. The book is filled with highlighted "best practices" and includes examples of the personal experiences of the author as well as other people. Some advanced security features are also provided for the more technologically-savvy readers.

Cute cartoon illustrations add a bit of levity to the serious subject matter. The book also includes handy links, a glossary, recommended reading list, and additional resources by the author. The book is a little bit repetitive, but this allows you to dip into different sections of the book as required, without having to read from the beginning.

A must-read for anyone using a computer - that means you!

I received this book in return for an honest review.

I received this book from Amazon yesterday morning and have been through the entire book. Now I am doing a second rereading and am going to highlight very important points for my grandson to read since he is now using the internet on his own without much help - it is time for him to learn proper security from someone with so much experience and knowledge - since he is so independent now, this book is perfect for him to follow because it is not full of fluff and fancy wording that you need a dictionary to follow to understand - I found this book to be easy to follow and I learned a lot that I did not know, that I thought I already knew - I will be making some changes with my use of the computer myself thanks to much of the information this book has given me. With so much more hacking and inappropriate use being made of the internet world these days you can never be protected enough. I highly recommend this book for everyone who is starting out in the computer world and for seniors like myself that thought they knew more then they really do.

Well written but little too simple for me, likely should not have bought it since I'm a network admin.
