This is the only latch I have found that locks by itself when you shut the fridge. What a lifesaver for a mom of young kids who always has her hands full! That is why I keep buying them. But why MUST I keep buying them? Because they break so easily! The little plastic tab is hardly there and if you forget about the lock one time while opening the door, BAM, you just blew seven bucks. The last two times it broke, it was my brother and my mother, who were visiting and not aware of the lock.

I would love to see a metal version of this that will not break. I would be willing to pay $20 for it because by now I have already dropped that much on these locks.

Works, for about a week. I had put this on the freezer to keep out a rambunctious 2 year old.

The tabs did stay on but it broke the latch after about the 3rd time, it's not repairable.

Next step will probably be to find something made out of metal that won't break so easily.

We needed a solution that would keep our twin boys out of the fridge drawer, this was not the solution. I see where they were going with this -- but for our circumstances, this didn't work at all, obviously this was intended to be attached to the side of the appliance and the door of the appliance -- we have custom fitted enclosures around our refrigerator, so there was no room to attach the latch to the side of the appliance. I tried to make it work, but because of the rigid plastic latch, when I pulled the door open, I basically broke it due to it being so rigid -- it was a complete loss. I understand I tried to push the product beyond its limits, but Safety 1st makes a product that performs essentially the same function with a vinyl latching mechanism -- so um, why are they selling these??

Anyway, we ended up finding these and they have worked well--not perfect, but one carton of eggs saved from an out of control toddler is a win--

I bought these to keep my cats out of the refrigerator. I noticed that sometimes the doors would pop open, and I worried that they could get into something dangerous to them. I was using Velcro to keep the doors closed, but it was unsightly, and I had to check each time to see if it was adhering. So glad to have found these locks! They work great! My door opens the other way so that the red button is on the bottom where you can't see it, but it works just the same. Because other reviewers state that they break and don't hold up, I'm taking the precaution of opening the latch before closing the door rather than just slamming the door shut. I feel like I have a new refrigerator with the Velcro gone!

My 4 year old figured it out pretty quickly, but it still is an extra step that usually triggers a conversation before she just heads into the fridge for anything she wants. And, it's effective at keeping my 2 year old out. It seems as well made as a product like this can be, and it's really quite clever in its simplicity. It may eventually break, but it'll take a lot to do so. Definitely a worthwhile purchase, and the price is right!

I wanted these to be great, but they break easily unfortunately. I don't think it was my 4 year old daughter who broke them though. I think it was probably other members of my household who either forgot it was there or didn't know how to open it. If you have people who are willing to take the time to press the latch down instead of just yanking the door open then I think it'll work fine.

These are great. We have dealt with many locks on our garage fridge and freezer. We have kids and often they think the appliance is shut and its not. These are really superior in quality. they hold up through a lot of kid-friendly wear and tear. Recommend them to everyone!
