Good product-- just too heavy & uncomfortable

Bought this item for use in our home improvement projects, painting, sanding and even taking out 60's vinyl which could have been possibly-- made of asbestos material. It worked well, certainly kept dirt and smells away. We used it to sand down drywall from our bathroom & after 2 days of sanding the filter was noticeably dirty and nearly clogged. My husband ran his filters under running water and it seemed to help keep it clean in between uses. I kept mine original- no cleaning other than wiping the outside of the mask. I used it for the other projects for a few weeks and it seemed to work well despite the weeks of use. The mask itself worked well, keeping dirt, smells and toxic stuff out but I would say that it is extremely uncomfortable. The plastic, while it securely hugs your face is not the softest. Also, it is heavy. I can only keep it on for 30mins max and I have to take it off to give myself a rest.

This mask worked well for the asbestos flooring project. Wore this with a hazmat suit and it felt secure and safe enough to use. However, it did get hot after a while. The same problem persisted-- it was heavy, uncomfortable and very plasticky. After a day of using it for flooring we gave up and just ordered the 3m 6000 half face piece respirator. For half the price and more or less half the weight, it worked better for our purposes. We wanted to love this mask it just didn't work the way we hoped it would.

Better check cartridge availability

Respirator is good enough. I made sure there were replacement cartridges available on Amazon before purchasing. Now there is a one to two month wait for shipping for cartridges on Amazon. Wish I had bought the 3M respirator now. Money down the drain. I called the manufacturer and apparently this is an older model. And other Safety Works cartridges won't fit it.

Best i've used

I can only compare this rig to Scott and North masks since those are the ones i've used previously. After a couple of weeks of day to day use in heavy sanding and finishing of oak i do hold this mask above both mentioned brands. Norths masks are hit or miss on whether you get a good purge valve or not and i'd gag on sawdust when dumping bags even with a "good" one. Nuff said. Scott had a great mask prior to their changeover to a new model which required a different cartridge and made my ol trusty obsolete due to the fact i couldnt get cartridges. The new models neck strap would pull loose whenever i leaned over and i would have to pull it tight everytime i stood back up. Needless to say your sucking down whatever is in your air while you're leaned over. That mask was always more of an annoyance than a safety need.
The msa gave me doubts when i saw the strap holds were a tension grip rather than a double looped buckle but it's proved me wrong. I strapped it super tight for the first couple days and they never pulled loose on me. At that time the pressure caused by being too tight hurt the bridge of my nose, so expiriment was over. I can feel the seal pop loose when i pull the mask iff at the end of the task. Very happy with this mask for sure. If there are any changes in sentiment i will update the post, but until then, i'm a happy camper.

My allergies goes away when I use it while doing wood work or yard work. Health wise, it's important to have a mask when you are doing any work that stir up a lot of dust. Lot of contractors and gardeners get sick or lung cancer and I feel it has a lot to do with inhaling harmful particles. Don't go with the dinky small masks strapped to the ears. Those don't seal and really keep out the dust. Go with semi-heavy duty one like this for any work. Now when I do major cleanup around the house, I sometimes wear this

Nice but a bit small

I bought this to do some work in my attic. I have 24" of cellulose insulation, so just crawling around up there makes lots of dust.

Pros
- The rubbery part of the mask is very rubbery. Possibly silicone. I have a thick, full, manly beard. While I'm sure some air leaked through the tiny spaces between the hairs, I still had a really good seal.
- The straps are comfortable and easy to adjust. Tip: place the top strap almost on top of your head.
- I had good airflow even when breathing heavy from doing manly work.

Cons
The mask kinda small. While I have a thick, full, manly beard, my chin is not so manly. Even so I had to chose between having the bottom part of the mask not quite under my chin or have the top of the mask almost to the end of my nose. This would have 5 stars were it not for the smallishness.

Feels cheap and flimsy

I'm a professional furniture finisher, and I was looking for something better than the 3M masks typically found at big home box stores. Those are more or less disposable (the neck and head band elastic always breaks or unravels, and the plastic band adjustment retainer tabs are prone to breaking as well). Got tired of replacing them 2-3 times per year, so I decided to take a chance in this one based on mostly positive reviews. Took one look out of the box and knew I hadn't found what I was looking for. The neck and head bands are the same cheap elastic as other poor quality masks, and the plastic adjustment retainer tabs feel like they won't make it a week before starting to break. If this were $20 I'd say it's ok for the money, but for almost $40, no way. There are much better choices out there for less $, including the GVS Eclipse P100 (which is what I replaced this makl with, glad I did). Avoid.

Different Masks For Different Projects

Protect your lungs- make sure you are using the type of mask and filters for the job you are doing. Some work for fumes like paint- some work for particles like lead or for chemicals. Make sure you know what you're using to give yourself the safety you need for your project. This brand has different masks depending on materials.
