Sagler Mortar and Pestle Set
Sagler Mortar and Pestle Set is the perfect tool to grind items into a fine paste or powder. It is made from beautiful marble and can hold up to 3 ounces. The mortar bowl and pestle work together to grind and break down ingredients quickly to help speed up food preparation with minimum effort. Quickly grind fresh ingredients, like cloves of garlic, herbs and spices, peppercorns or cinnamon, nuts, grains, and seeds, into a fine paste or powder. Even use it as a pill crusher to pulverize harder-to-swallow pills! Essential tools for those practicing homeopathy, the art of healing through natural remedies, Sagler’s Mortar and Pestle Set offers effortless preparation of herbal and homeopathic remedies. So easy to use. Simply place an item into the Mortar bowl. Hold the pestle by the handle and, using a firm pressure, make a circular stirring-like motion to grind your item into a paste or powder. Harder items, like peppercorns, may need the surface cracked before they can be ground.

It’s well made, but it is TINY. I obviously read the description and made the mistake of thinking the diameter was the diameter of the inside of the bowl, not the outside. I really don’t know if it’s going to be usable for grinding anything hard like peppercorns, seeds, etc, that move around a lot while being ground. We’ll see...but now I know not to make that mistake again. Bigger really is better.

This isn't my first mortar and pestle, however it is my first one that I had to "prep" / "season" / "cure", whatever you want to call it. Essentially, it comes to you as a raw, newly made item. At first it will feel like its unfinished, however this is how its supposed to be in order to grind better and this happens with all granite/stone mortars and pestles. If you touch the inside of the mortar or the bottom of the pestle, it may have some slight stone powder. This means you'll need to prep it.
You therefore have to wash it in warm water w/o soap, allow to air dry, then grind up rice and discard about 2 to 3 times separately to get the stone to stop shedding powder and then season or cure it with spices so that it is ready to grind up whatever you need.
I.E. Don't just take it out of the box and use it for something you eat right away! If you do you may get stone particles in your food. Wait until after you clean it and prep it. Just Google how to prep my mortar and pestle and I'm sure there's an article or video that will suit your needs.
I knew this would be a small one, so I was hoping for one this size. I only need it for making small batch herb grinding for teas, salves, etc. So it fits my needs perfectly. It holds about 1 cup if filled to the brim, but keep in mind you'll need room for muddling (mixing/grinding). If you're looking for something to make bigger portions in, find a bigger one.
I always super appreciate when people add pictures to reviews so I tried to get the size and aesthetic as good as I could. I'm a young woman with relatively small/medium sized hands for reference. This fits in the palm of my hand comfortably and is really exactly what I wanted.
Hope this helps! I'm happy I got it and would definitely buy again if needed. Its a sturdy little mortar and pestle.

Mine does have a line running through it that I thought might have been a break and repair job. But upon closer inspection, its literally just a natural feature of the marble. I looked under a loupe because I was wondering about the integrity of the bowl. U can see in the line in the pic.
I like the quality so much that even if the bowl breaks across that line, I'd buy another. Its beautiful and useful.
Also I think the lady who complained about the line in her bowl being a repair job, got a bowl from the same batch as mine. Definitely just nature at her finest.
