Edward hooked me into the story from the moment I began reading. At first glance, I thought the story would lean more towards a book tailored to a younger generation. The further I got, however, that idea got shot through the window. The author has such a unique way of telling a story that you find yourself engrossed in it. So much so, that you start to imagine the worlds he's created that are centered around this complex character.
Matthias has no idea what he's in for when he sets out on his journey. In his mind, he thought he'd discover what he's been missing in the blink of an eye. This fact, however, is far from what he could have imagined. The various characters he meets along the way help him to understand who he is. Though they give him further pieces of the puzzle, they're also willing to unlock the darkness that exists within him.
I love the character's voyage of self-discovery. With every path he takes, the author opens Matthias' world further, allowing us to explore each and every aspect alongside the character himself. I can't wait to see what else Edward has in store for Matthias and the rest of the characters. If you haven't read any of his stories yet, I definitely recommend this one. It's one you'll read time and time again!
Edward Medina has established himself as a gifted author and world builder and once again he does not disappoint. All the characters are rich and fascinating. All the settings are detailed and full of possibilities. It’s hard to tell the story without giving away its wonderful secrets. This is a battle between light and darkness. There’s a mix of science and magic at work. All of this comes together in a glorious first book to this trilogy.
This book started out solid, and you know you're in the hands of a storyteller. I was a little disappointed when it changed gears, but not for long.
I'm not going to summarize the plot or give anything anyway. I will say that halfway through I realized what this book reminded of: Alice in Wonderland. No, not the Disney version, the literary work. We follow Mathias into a whimsical world of quirky characters, fantastic landscapes and a full formed mythology that is slowly, lyrically revealed.
Like the best fables, It Is Said is not long, but it's deep. There are many morals here, along with allegories. There is a message for the reader, not just for Mathias. Not to mention a few Stephen King references for the keen-eyed.
This is not a page-turning thriller. This is a fable that you will need to become pleasantly lost within so that it can carry you away.
This is a book for readers who remember what stories can do when in the hands of an author who knows a little magic.
That being said, I was at first confused by and then consumed by "It is Said". I read it in one sitting. Many times, I wanted to call my 25 year old and read aloud to him. It is just that powerful. You want to share the words. They just fly off the page and are oh so lyrical !
The story is a journey, a search, a dream, a nightmare. It's about creativity and imagination. Characters are real, fantasies, and maybe both.
I highly recommend this book to thoughtful, insightful readers. It is simply stunning.
