So, when it came time to read Sail I was nervous as hell. I wasn't sure if I wanted Casey and Blake to end up together. Blake had to seriously step it up and somehow change my opinion of her. I needed her to prove that she was worthy of Casey and that all the heartache she had put him through was worth it.
She did that and so much more.
I was not expecting to see a side of Blake that made me understand why she did the things the way she did. But we definitely got a different Blake in Sail. While she finally grew some lady balls and moved forward in ending her sham of a marriage! She was also vulnerable and unsure in her new relationship with Casey. This was a new Blake that we hadn't seen before.
"What if he doesn’t want you after the chase? What if he only likes the thrill?" -Blake
And Casey really opened my eyes. I wanted to blame Blake for everything because she was the one in another relationship. She was the reason they never really stood a chance. But Casey realized he'd never stepped up and been the man she needed him to be. He ran when things got to be too much. He swooped in and changed her life but what had he really given her that made her believe they had a future?
"She had a house. A husband. A planned life. What did I have to offer other than my love? And that wasn’t even something I alone offered her. He loved her too—I assumed, in his weird robotic way." -Casey
I liked that the author made me see both characters in a completely different light. It made me love this book that much more! I can't wait for the conclusion of their story!
SO MUCH YES! This is what I have waited months for. It was so completely worth it! Sail is Casey and Blake’s journey, finally, their real, honest journey. They love unconditionally and unapologetically. They are a TEAM, “We've got this”. They communicate, they don’t run, they have complete transparency with one another and it is amazing!
Of course, for Blake, divorcing her husband after having an affair with another man was never going to be easy, but the beauty of it, is watching Blake grow as a person through the whole ordeal. She knows what she wants and she goes for it. Grant certainly doesn't plan to give her up easily and we see a side of him that we haven’t seen before. Casey... gosh, I fell in love with him even more if that was possible. He was so desperate to prove his undying devotion to Blake and rebuild their relationship slowly and for real.
If you were tortured with the cliff-hanger from Bait, you will be happy to know there is no cliffy in Sail. It is a fantastic read. Highs, lows, sunshine, rainbows and moments of agony. A great story is one where you are completely thrown into the world of the characters. You feel what they feel and you become the book. M. Mabie, just like when I read Bait, I became a part of Sail, part of Casey and Blake. Their character development is fantastic, their love is like no other. Their bond can’t be broken, no matter the consequences.
“The best things are worth waiting a little for, honeybee. Otherwise, fairy tales would start with happily ever after.” - Casey
This time around, it felt as if I was completely privy to the most private of moments between these two lovers. Written in alternating POV's, the time for denying true feelings and emotions is over. We get complete honesty this time around and it was long overdue. Blake was so closed off, so afraid to feel, so afraid to admit her love of Casey in Bait, that reading her true, raw thoughts actually made me like her! I was not her biggest fan and this book has turned me around. Watching Blake and Casey face all of their fears head on was utterly wonderful. They finally have their chance to do it right, get everything out into the open and they aren't wasting a single second.
Casey is as swoonworthy as ever and his 'courtship' of the love of his life was such a joy to read. That he is willing to make Blake's dreams come true all the while loving her with everything he has had me sighing and often! His loyalty, his trust in her to make things right for them was never misguided. He knew his honeybee needed to find her way. It was just a matter of time.
This very well written and beautiful book is such a departure from Bait and was quite frankly the perfect sequeway into what will be the last in this series, Anchor. What I adored most was that the author proved that sometimes love truly isn't enough but it certainly is worth fighting for.Read more ›
