Snow Princess Kaguya follows Luna, as she falls in love with a sickly human named Kakeru, who is already in a tough relationship with his childhood friend Himeko. Along the way, we find a 4.5 billion year old monster, bent on turning Earth into her ice kingdom. There is nudity and adult themes, so please don't let your kids read this. This was the story that spawned the Sailormoon S film. Outer Senshi fans and fans of Diana will be happy to see these characters in a bigger role than in the anime. (Diana was missing from the anime until SuperS.) The first time Diana meets Chibiusa is told here.
Casablanca Memories is a sad tale about Rei's first heartbreak, and takes place right after Jupiter joins the team. Zoicite is a surprising villain here.
If you are a fan of Mamoru and Usagi's relationship, this is a sweet book. There is a kissing scene, but most of all, you get to see their second baby after Chibiusa, Kousagi!
Parallel Sailormoon takes place after the StarS arc, but before the 30th Century. (Minako mentions in the Snow Kaguya story that the future is malleable, meaning that it's never been set in stone and can/does change, hence where 30th Century initially had 5 Sailor Senshi, but the last time we see it, there's more.) So it takes place after Usagi says she wishes for everyone to "live as they are". So here, Rei, Ami, Makoto and Minako are all married and each have one daughter, while Usagi and Mamoru have two. Parallel Sailormoon is a bit of an anti-bullying story from 1999, (the year it was written, not when it takes place) where Kousagi is teased by the other girls, but eventually leads them as a Sailor Senshi herself.
Another cute Mamoru scene is where he combines his power with Chibi Moon, to make a new attack. ^_^ He's not just a pretty boy anymore!
The translation is pretty close to the original book. When Chibiusa calls Kousagi "Chibi-chan" in the Japanese print, they translated it here to "munchkin" but I'll live. It's a sweet book to close out the Sailormoon series.
This also includes Parallel Sailor Moon, which is ridiculous and whimsical, but something a die-hard Sailor Moon fan is going to want to read as it offers a different kind of glimpse into the future.
I'm a 26 year old woman, and I don't find this story childish at all. The first short stories books were more childish, but still very very enjoyable!
I ordered both the Short Stories 1 & 2 together. When I opened the packaged I found that some type of adhesive/glue was stuck to the spine of Short Stories 2 and the packaging itself. Short Stories 1 has a price sticker on the cover. Its the type of sticker that is damn near impossible to peel off. These are only cosmetic but enough to tick me off.
Anyways, the inside of the books is perfect and beautiful with no missing pages. Definite must have for any Sailor Moon manga collections!
:) The larger size from the TokyoPop version is very nice and the new translations are great too.
