From the manufacturer
Archival PIGMA Ink
Invented by Sakura in 1982, continues to be the most reliable in on the market today. Pigma ink benefits:
- Pigment based ink using single color pigments.
- Fade Resistant.
- No smears or feathers on most papers.
- Ink dries to pH neutral.
PIGMA Pigment Based Ink Performance
Pigment Molecules are 100 times bigger and more chemically complex than dye molecules allowing it to stay within the top layer of the paper rather than absorbing through the paper causing bleed-thru.
Pigment Versus Dye Ink
The larger and more chemically complex molecules inherently makes them longer lasting; therefore, less susceptible to UV rays, chemical degradation and pollution from contact with oils.
When accuracy, minute details and preservation count, the unparalleled archival quality of pigma micron pens makes them everyone's first choice. Artist, writers and illustrators reach for pigma micron and know their work is safeguarded with the permanence of pigma ink. Experience smooth, skipfree writing and crisp ink colors that leave consistent lettering and lines every time. It has achieved universal appeal and is carried by technical professionals, artists and crafters alike anthropologists, entomologists, scientists, research laboratories, archivists, architects, professional diamond cutters, cartoonists, manga and anime artists, illustrators, heirloom quilters and decorative fabric artists. Features archival quality ink for use in acidfree environments, chemically stable, waterproof, fade resistant, no smears, feathers or bleedthrough on most papers. Applicable for graphic art, scrapbook, archival recording, pen and ink illustrations, freehand art, rubber stamps, cartooning and fabric design. Technical qualities are archival quality pigma ink, six point sizes, no smear or feather when dry, waterproof and chemical proof, fade resistant, does not bleed through most papers, meets astm and acmi nontoxicity standard and not evaluated for cosmetic use on skin. I've been using Microns since my days at Art School and will continue to do so as I continue in my career.
I purchased these for my art class that required these pens. I like the fine tips and they are great. They are made nicely and the in really doesn't bleed or mess up. It's a very nice solid black color unlike Sharpie markers. I like everything about them but I realize after using the 01 pen for only a few minutes, it always dries up and then would work again after numerous scribbling. The 05 and 08 pens are fine and come out really bold and nice, but the ink does take a while to dry. I smudged it by accident once, and I normally do let things air out and dry.
The 05 and 08 (or basically thicker tips), tend to "hair" up or just shed. I always have to use my fingers to pull out these pieces that get stuck onto them or come off from them. Overall, the product is good, but the fact that the thinner ones tend to dry out and require a lot of scribbling to fix is kind of inconvenient and annoying.

Great for watercolors, as will not smear after short drying period, and can apply watercolor on top without bleeding/smearing.Read more
