I was in Chamonix for 5 weeks and these shoes were the best useful shoes/boots I had. I have the Salomon S Lab X Alps and I used them when I did hikes and climbs that needed crampons. I also have the Salomon XA Enduros, they were useful on certain days and just hanging out in town, These S Lab XA's are the way to go. I wore them while in Zermatt and crossed over from the top of the mountains on the Italian border into Italy to Cervino. They handled the glacier crossing just fine. I used them on fast hikes and scrambles throughout the Chamonix valley. Wet days, dry, hot days, they were the best shoe I brought.
The Contagrip sole is awesome, the speed lace system is secure and easy, the built in gator was a dream in not getting rocks, snow and other debris into the shoe.
It is the one shoe I would recommend to anyone who wants to move fast for trail running, or fast hiking. For a training shoe for mountaineering hikes is what I really enjoy using it for.
It is the shoe I loved wearing the most while on my trip.
