These are probably the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. The eyelet wrap between the lower portion and the upper portion (third down from top, shaped like a 'V') is awesome technology. It allows you to 'lock' in the lower part of the boot's lace tightness (or looseness) and then be able to tighten, or leave looser, the top portion independent of the lower portion. Just remember that when you're unlacing them, after you've unlaced to top two eyelet wraps, pull up, then out, on that third eyelet wrap to 'unlock' it, so you don't excessively wear/tear the lace and/or damage the technology.
Great height for a boot too. Awesome tread. Extremely lightweight for everything they have going on.
Overall a good boot for the price. Buy a half size up from what you would normally wear. The boots have thick insulated padding. That, coupled with a good winter sock, makes for a snug fit. Lastly, given the 3/4 shank sole, the boots easily accept strap on crampons without issue.
Get your normal salomon size and realize that the boots are meant to fit tight at first. As you break them in the insulation will compress and form around your foot, making for an extremely comfortable hiking boot. I gave 4 stars because I'm not entirely pleased with the tongue as it does not seem to want to stay in place as you're lacing up. Very small complaint so all in all this boot is awesome. And also with only 200 grams of thinsulate if you're not moving around your feet will get cold. First day I wore them it was between 16-22 degrees throughout the day and the only time my feet started to get a little cold I was sitting on a backhoe for about 30 minutes. As long as I was moving around they stayed toast warm
