"Saloon" by The Ongoing Concept is truly a masterpiece. I describe it as indie+metal+hipster. It is original, smooth, and musically genius. The riffs are original. The style is extremely unique. And the lyrics have some depth to them, unlike many modern artists.

If you are looking for something new and good, choose the Ongoing Concept's "Saloon".

First thing first, this is not your typical metal album. I have no idea what to call this. The Ongoing Concept has finally brought something new to the metal scene with Saloon. Think Maylene and the Sons of Disaster meets The Chariot meets the Black Keys meets He Is Legend. The whole album is a roller coaster ride into so many different genres that it is ridiculous. The harsh vocals are really chaotic, the clean vocals are catchy and different. The weirdest thing is the use of banjos and pianos throughout. The whole album causes images of the Wild West. It is insane. Do yourself a favor and buy this now. It is more than worth it.

When we hear the word "Saloon", most of us probably think of a bar on the old west, filled with cowboys, loose women, a bartender and a piano man. This is where everyone, local cowboys and outlaws alike, come to wet their whistles and relax at the end of a long day. Inside it's four walls, it can be peaceful, even a bit organized at times as men gather around and gamble, or it can descend into chaos with a single gunshot, swinging fist, or loose bottle.

This is what makes the name of this album so great, it fits the contents of the album beautifully. Inside this case, you'll find an explosive 11 tracks of organized, beautiful, and at times chaotic sounds from the underground music scene. The album also appears divided into two parts as well, split up by track 7, "Sidelines", as sort of an intermission.

Track 1, "Let's Deal the Cards Again", is the opening scene. Rowdy cowboys gambling over a game of poker. One sore loser comes in, and with a single gunshot, everything falls apart at the beginning of....
Track 2, "Saloon." This opening track is literally an embodiment of everything you're bound to hear on this album. Screaming vocals that may be enough to make even the most seasoned vets like Spencer Chamberlain a little jealous, beautifully intertwined honky tonk sounds in the way of a traditional saloon piano, and heavy, chugging guitars that will make you bang your head just a bit and potentially reach unsafe speeds if you listen while driving. This track is a fitting intro, and sets the stage for the rest of the album.
Track 3, "You Are the One", opens with a chorus repeating it's namesake. The track then turns into the first blatantly obvious peace of southern metalcore-influenced piece on the album.

The most interesting "metal" band I have heard in a while. I only put the quotations around metal because they're much more versatile than that. They combine genres that should not work, but do. Really curious to see where this band ends up, since they could go a dozen different directions and pull it off.

Wow. I listen to a lot of Christian Metal and these guys are a breath of fresh air. Awesome, blistering vocals with a variety of other types of music and creativity. If you like Maylene and the sons of disaster and anything along those lines in metal, buy this CD you won't be disappointed.

I heard about this album through the grapevine and was a little apprehensive because, as I get older, the more curmudgeonly I approach new music.

I was extremely surprised and satisfied with the album as whole. It is refreshing with just enough non-conventional elements thrown in to keep you interested in listening. There is a slight slump mid-album, but that is solely because I am not interested in piano-fueled ballads. However, the music is heavy, playful, and, at times, theatrical. A great outing.

I saw their music video to Covergirl and enjoyed it.. later in the day I was listening to this whole album on Youtube.. I loved it.. The next day here I am buying this album..

I think the thing I love most about this album is that it's not all screaming and this group has a very unique sound. Banjos with metal style music.. never heard of this combination til I listened to this.. this is a fantastic album!

This is one of the most original and creative albums I've ever listened to. I love every second of this album, and I'd definitely suggest picking it up if you are into heavy music at all. Some people I've shown dislike the vocals, but I think they just add to the uniqueness and I love it all! I'm now a huge fan of The Ongoing Concept!
