Neil’s desire to make a difference and the fact that he has the funds to put those desires into action does not please the corrupt establishment. Consequently, attempts have been made on Neil’s life. This doesn’t stop him from accepting the invitation to get together with his combat buddies on a remote barrier island near Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. The author’s description of this part of the country truly helps to bring the area and the story to life.
My only complaint is the cliff-hanger ending – leaving the reader no choice but to continue the series.
He surrounds himself with a trusted few, including Jason Turner, the head of household security who served with him in Iraq, Michael Stuart, the CEO of Morgan Holdings and his right hand who is one of his most trusted oldest friends, Gwen, the chief of household domestic staff and cook.
In a reunion of sorts at Harriot’s Island, Neil gets together with his war buddies Jackson, Bev Gillian, Carter, Pike, Tim ‘Sandy’ Sandeford, Bobby ‘Hawk’ Johnson, Sean Dawson. He also meets Bev’s boyfriend Daniel Tate, Ross Gillian the ferryboat captain, her dad Gil, Ryan Gillian, her sister Jesse. While there Neil moves fast on a business deal with start up company Tesseract on a new fuel cell concept and a romance with Ross. It leaves you hanging with questions and ends on a cliff hanger…to be continued in the next book.
Neil is a soldier who's come back from the war and now has PTSD that manifests in the form of nightmares. He also happens to be a billionaire businessman, a fact he seems to be mildly embarrassed by. Ross is the daughter of one of his new business associates, and when they meet, it isn't exactly love at first sight.
You'll love watching these two fight through their demons together and fall in love. Jenna Brett has written a really lovely novel- and made me want to dive into the second in this series!
