Salty Dog: Phantom Queen Book 7 - A Temple Verse Series (The Phantom Queen Diaries) Kindle Edition
Abductions rarely go as planned…but this is just ridiculous.
Torn from the Faeling Games on the beaches of Scotland, Quinn MacKenna suddenly finds herself doggie-paddling in a turbulent sea of blood with no land in sight.
And that’s the highlight of her day so far, because her abductors seem perfectly content to simply leave her in this strange Otherworld. Quinn must fight tooth and nail to unearth answers about herself and her place in the worlds of both Man and Fae…even if that means losing herself, first.
Luckily, it seems teeth and nails are all the rage as Quinn teams up with an unlikely guide as a god’s consolation prize. Unfortunately, it turns out man’s best friend can be one damn salty dog.
Debts come due and masks are torn away, and Quinn learns that nothing and no one is as they seemed. That her entire life has been a setup for a much more nefarious game. And the only way to even have a chance at winning is to fetch those broken remnants of her soul.
It’s a dog eat dog world out there…
And this black magic arms dealer likes to bite—when the mood is right.
If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Michael Anderle, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, or K.F. Breene, you won't be able to put down the highly addictive Phantom Queen Diaries or anything else in the Temple Verse.

The rest of the story you'll have to read for yourself.
The juxtaposition between the two is jarringly apparent, yet when it all circles back around to Quinn the similarities fall just as smoothly into place. The insight into her character and how she has changed, in cause of and in some cases despite herself is not as conflicted as in the past, showing a sense of growth that despite the strength of her personality in previous books, has been noticeably absent in some aspects.
Of course that doesn't mean she comes out things cleanly, despite all the answers she's found by the end of her tale here there are still just as many new questions thrust upon her that leave her identity and role just as up in the air as before, if not moreso given what costs those aforementioned answers came at. Triumph and loss are too tightly woven throughout the book to be avoided at its conclusion, and it does leave some other questions in mind for how O'Connell and Silvers aim to tie those threads back together in the future.
The book also narrowly avoided a too well worn love oriented story trope, a decision I am grateful for as a reader but in the same thought also find curious as a writer because the aversion does make some of the latter end story impact falter just a bit, where it feels like it should have been heavier. Whether this is something left intentionally notable for pursuit in the future isn't obvious in the writing itself, so I find myself erring on the side of cautious curiosity as to whether this will be one of said threads tied up further in the grander plot.
Overall this smacks as one of Quinn's strongest showings yet as a character and as foundation to her positioning in the greater span of the Templeverse. As always I look forward to what comes next.
The adventure reminded me of Nate when he first went to Fae in Wild Side and he had to use a totem to remember who he was to succeed in his journey. I loved how Quinn discovers that she has different aspects to her personality and by accepting this truth, she is stronger for it. Instead of the “wild” side that Nate discovers, Quinn finds a softer side that allows love to enter her life. And to keep love, that sometimes she has to give up parts of herself.
A lesson for all of us, Quinn realizes that she needs her complete self to succeed. Most of her life, she depended on the rough attitude that defined her and in this novel, she realizes that she is so much more.
I was thrilled to see how Salty Dog showed a deeper connection to Nate and the story ARC for all three series in the TempleVerse world. The book concludes with answers to questions that explain that connection. Those reveals force Quinn to face her past and her parents, needing the strength that her complete self gives her.
Both Shayne and Cameron has an amazing talent to delve into the psyche of a woman lead and this comes clear once again in this book. The emotions of Quinn is spot on for all the experiences of this story. If you love brilliant writing and a world that is busting with life; take a step into TempleVerse and the life of Quinn. Well done, guys!

who you actually are? Where you actually came from?
Without memory of our past, can we learn to be different?
This is the path that Quinn takes in this story.
Trapped in Otherworld with no memory of who she really is, or why she is there, with
a rather unusual guide, Quinn encounters many trials to gain her answers.
The usual mix of magic, mayhem, action and humour, some childlike, some very adult.
All engrossing, so you can't resist reading just a little more, just a little more.
If you haven't read this series yet get into them now. Your nights will never again be the same nor your vocabulary and humour so wide.
For the most part this one is filled with new characters who are a great addition to the Templeverse as a whole and you also get some background for Quinn and Nate as well as some easter eggs thrown in
