5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bundle on Amazon! Best Podcast/Streaming Starter Kit!
By Lydonian on September 19, 2018
It took me months to pull the trigger on the Samson Q2U. I had been looking at getting a mic to do some podcasting and some game streaming on Twitch/Mixer. I'd be doing all this in my living room so I needed something that would not intake all the background noise going on. This mic handles it perfectly!

I originally began to research this mic because of a youtube reviewer Podcastage. He goes on to explain why this mic is the best bang for the buck on the market. After doing some more research it became clear that this was the option for me. A lot of my friends have Blue Yeti/Blue Snowballs and were recommending those. However, as I mentioned I have a lot of background noise. Those mics are great in isolated areas. They would pick up everything from my cat meowing to my PC fan. This mic doesn't pick up anything! (well it picks up me typing a bit. But can't have it all can you?) I use the windscreen instead of the pop filter because I like the look better. The pop filter fits on easily though.

Another reason I'm glad I waited was that I had no idea this bundle existed. I was just going to get a Neewer boom arm for $15.00. But it had pretty terrible reviews and just looks cheap. Also, as you can see from my photos I have a desk that needs a large clamp. In fact, I thought I was going to have to have to screw it into my desk with the flang mount. Luckily I was wrong and this came with a large and heavy duty desk clamp. The thing looks incredibly professional and comparable to models by Rode in the $90.00 price range.

The headphones are not very comfortable and I will probably never use them... but I wasn't planning on using them so I am not disappointed at all.

So far I've used this for a couple of live streams and podcast episodes and it sounds amazing. My fellow podcasters are jealous that I don't have to mute my mic everytime I am done speaking. If you are looking for a great starter kit look no further!

Seller had shipped the product to me faster than expected. As you can see from the packaging it is well taken care of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for gaming!
By Bradley on June 7, 2019
Overview: I purchased the bundle containing the microphone, boom arm, headphones, and pop filter. I have split the review up into categories for each of these items. My primary use is for gaming and communicating with teammates through Discord or in-game voice channels.

Samson Q2U Microphone
+ Sturdy build quality. This thing is solid.
+ The ability to use the microphone via both USB or with an XLR interface allows you to slowly expand your setup for better quality without a huge up-front expense. I'm currently using the USB connection. I've found the perfect Windows Sound level (Sound > Recording tab > Properties > Levels tab) to be 79.
+ The voice quality is great for the price. It's much better than my gaming headset mic. My buddy has told me I sound like a radio host and I frequently receive compliments on my mic quality from random teammates.
+ The noise isolation is phenomenal. This is a dynamic mic after all. It cuts out essentially all background noise. I'm told my keyboard and mouse clicks can't be heard at all, even on open mic settings. As seen in my images, my wife's station is very close to my own. I can stand at her station, yell, and the mic doesn't pick up a thing. You need to be speaking into this thing from no more than 3 to 4 inches for best results, which is exactly what I was expecting for my purpose. This is a big plus in a noisy household.
- One issue I have experienced when using the USB connection is that when I restart or boot up my PC, I have to remove and reinsert the USB cable. It appears that somewhere along the line there was an issue with a Windows update that was never resolved. It's a minor inconvenience that could be solved by upgrading to an XLR interface at a later date.
- The mic is very sensitive to sibilance (sibilants are fricative consonants of higher amplitude and pitch, made by directing a stream of air with the tongue towards the teeth). If you speak with sharp S sounds like I do, just keep that in mind. Wind screens and pop filters aren't able to help much in this regard.

Boom Arm
+ Very sturdy, if not a little stiff. The clamp to the desk holds tight. Simply put, this thing isn't shifting anywhere on accident once all the tighteners are fastened down.
+ Plenty of ties for cable management to the exterior of the boom arm.

Headphones
+ The only positive is that they were an extra item when I primarily wanted the bundle for the boom arm and microphone.
- These feel cheaply made.
- Extemely uncomfortable to wear. I wouldn't expect to use these except for very short durations. Do yourself a favor and don't bank on using these. Buy a better pair of headphones.

Pop Filter
+ It feels very solidly made. I can't weigh in on anything else as I haven't really used it. The wind screen that came with the mic has been sufficient. Instead, I've saved the pop filter in case I need to use it with my Blue Yeti mic.

Closing: Can't recommend the Samson Q2U enough. Purchased a Blue Yeti several years ago. After moving to a new house and setting my desk up in a loft area with a lot more background noise, I was struggling to prevent the Blue Yeti from picking up every little sound from downstairs. That's when I learned the difference between a condenser mic versus a dynamic mic. The Samson Q2U is an amazing dynamic mic with great noise isolation. Check out "IT GOT LOUD!" by Booth Junkie on YouTube and you'll understand why dynamic mics are awesome. But check out Podcastage for a very thorough review of the Samson Q2U specifically. I'd say the Samson Q2U easily beats the Blue Yeti, even in voice quality. For me, it seems to give extra bass and presence. Even if you're just looking for a quality mic to casually game with, the Samson Q2U should be at the top of your list.
