I purchased the Samsonite 28" Spinner for business and personal travel. The suitcase looks great, I purchased charcoal, and is LARGE with multiple pockets (see pictures). I fully understand this will likely be scratched after being loaded and unloaded and thrown about by airport attendants.

I also like the zipper lock feature. I understand others have commented about its integrity because it's made of plastic. I figure, if it breaks I'll use one of my TSA approved locks. I'm not downscoring because this isn't a necessity, but rather a nice-to-have.

It's expandable (picture below), and comes with a soft cover (also pictured). For the price I paid, $120.00, I don't think there's a better suitcase on the market. It looks good, has a quality name, and will fit in with other business travelers (who've often paid 4-5x the price).

Great look, packs well, dissimilar to other luggage. We have 6 of these, both carry on hard cases and large check size. I occasionally check the bag when it's free at the gate. Thanks to my credit card, I get a free checked bag, so we always check the larger versions of this when we are on extended travel. The only issue we've experienced in over 60 flights last year was the bars of the handle became bent due to the gorilla baggage handler. I opened the case (easy to access because of the zippered liner) and made a fix by hammering and straightening the assembly. Overall, the carry on hard case is ample for 4 days of clothing (haha...it *can* be done if you're a good packer). Wheels and case have held up well, there are scratches that turn out to be plastic rubbed onto the finish that comes off with a cleaner like goof-off or just glass cleaner. Easy to tote around the airport with a soft case on top, and the case fits easily down the seat aisle rolling on all 4 wheels.

[Update]: Still working great after 4+ years and over 1000 flights now. It shows wear and tear on the wheels, but it looks practically brand new. Zippers, Lock and handles all working fine...

I traveled 20 weeks and over 60 flights last year with this little case, for what it's worth I'll pass on a few hints I use to pack if anyone is interested...

-Pants, large items...fold them in as large an area as possible to fit in the case. The fewer folds, less wrinkles.
-Underwear, Undershirts, socks, etc...don't fold small. Layer them on top of other clothing in as large and thin a layer as possible.
-Dress shirts: [Have cleaners] use heavy starch, fold in 3rd, and layer alternating collars and place in zippered top section.
-I pack dry toiletries in a clear sided pencil case, and all 3oz. in a heavy duty zippered freezer bag.
-Carry toiletries and liquids in a soft carry on to avoid spills and save space..eases TSA process.
-Pack hangers and hang out clothes, unpack as soon as possible.
-Purchase a few zip-lock style shrink bags. I don't use these to pack GOING, I use them to store worn clothes for the trip BACK...amazing how much space they create when packing to come home. Easy to 'vacuum' seal by covering with a hotel pillow and laying on it to remove air.
-Bring a few plastic shopping bags (wrap your shoes) and also protect clothing from spills. They come in handy in CA (no bags at grocery stores!)
-I carry a back pack to house my iPad, MacBook, toiletries and a few snacks + a collapsable water bottle I fill just before flight...I try to put my shoes and at least a days change of clothes in case I check my hard case carry on and they lose it!

Hope that helps, or perhaps there's something in there you can use to add to what works for you.

I can't say enough good things about this line from Samsonite! Since purchasing them a year ago to replace my older luggage I've taken them all over Brazil, all over Argentina, Singapore a dozen times, Bangkok at least once a month for the last 2 years, Ho Chi Min, all over Cambodia, and of course on trips around the US.

I've thrown them on and off buses, dragged them from train to train, crammed them in and out of more taxis and shuttles than I can count, and dragged them about a mile and a half down the road in the rain (they're surprisingly water resistant at the seams and expansion fabric...although certainly not water proof).

Through it all the handles have held up, despite the larger two consistently weighing in at 70 lbs and the carry-on frequently tipping the scale at close to 40 lbs (don't tell the airlines...that's way too heavy for a carry-on to be) and the wheels are still in amazing shape.

The bags also look fantastic given them beating they get! There are a few scratches here and there and I've frequently gotten a bag back with a corner smashed in...but it always pops right back into place with no issues, and the contents are always safe and secure.

The locks are still in perfect working order...the handles still slide in and out easily and feel solid when locked into place. All of the zippers work perfectly.

The single significant gripe I have about this set of bags that would make it absolutely perfect would be more handles.

The carry-on only has a handle on the top of the bag...which makes it a bit awkward for carrying up and down stairs...a side handle like the other two have would be ideal.

It would also be nice if there was a grip of some sort on the bottom so that you could more easily lift with two hands when moving it up onto a rack or something of that nature...while most purchasers won't use them to the degree that I do, most will at some point want to put this bag onto a stand in the hotel or lift one up onto a shelf in the terminal bus...the largest bag in particular has a deceptive amount of storage space (I've had it loaded to 104 lbs) and picking it up by the top handle and a rotating wheel is...not super fun.

That one caveat though shouldn't discourage anyone from buying them...they've stood as well and better to any number of other more expensive bags I've owned, including other Samsonites...I've been very pleased with them, and expect them to last at least another few years at my current travel pace. For people like my parents who only fly a few times a year this bag could very well be the last one you ever have to buy.

EDIT 02/17/2017:

I've now purchased 3 full sets of this luggage, 2 in Charcoal for me and a purple set for my girlfriend. I can literally pack everything we own save our camping gear and bikes in those 9 bags...to date the only issue I've ever had was that someone tried to get into one of them and tore through the zipper with a screwdriver or knife...the end result was one zipper clasp was completely missing and a few teeth on the zipper got bent up pretty badly. I sent it off to one of their authorized dealers in Singapore though and was able to repair it with no issues while I was in Malaysia for a few months.

EDIT 01/11/2018:

After 2 years and just shy of 100 flights, I ripped the seam of the inside liner on one medium bag. I don't think this was the result of bad workmanship however, rather I'd only packed clothes and some camera gear into the top section and zipped it off. The other side was not entirely empty but close. I think at some point the pressure of the gear against the fabric divider, without the support of gear on the opposite side allowed enough motion to cause the seam to give out. It's being repaired now...I'll add a picture once I get it back.

I bought this a year ago. 2/3/17. I travel at least once a week. Yes, it is scratched up but who cares. It gets my clothes to and from wherever I go without any problems. No problems with the wheels or the case itself. I haven't used the lock because it doesn't matter. If they want to search your luggage they will, and there is nothing that the baggage handlers will want to steal. I traveled 72,000 miles last year with this bag. The reason I'm putting up this review is that I am buying the 20" and I hope it will be just as strong. I don't need the space for 3 day trips. I tried to add pics but I couldn't figure out how.

Holds up well over time

Note that I purchased my luggage over a year and a half ago and started writing this review. It's now 1-1/2 years later and I came across my notes and decided to finish it. So now anyone reading gets the benefit of my first impression as well as my opinion after using it quite a bit.

Noticed when getting ready to leave for my first trip with this bag that there is no built in luggage tag. Usually, I just slide my business card into the insert on my suitcase, and this doesn’t have one. Not a huge deal, but I didn’t have a luggage tag at home to add to it, so in a pinch I resorted to putting my name, email and phone number on a mailing label, and sticking it on the suitcase for my first trip. I suggest that anyone who buys this suitcase take note to have their own luggage tag.
My first trip entailed 3 flights and 4 train rides. I checked the luggage on the flights and there were no issues. For the train rides, I appreciated that the bag itself is relatively lightweight. I had to lift the bag onto the overhead on the trains, and I’m a 5’3 woman doing this by myself. Of course, it also depended on what I packed in the bag, but I appreciated that the bag itself didn’t weigh me down.
When I travel, I take a wheeled briefcase with me as well as the suitcase. This was my first foray into using a 4-wheeled bag for the suitcase. What a difference that makes! Instead of pulling both bags behind me, the 4 wheeled suitcase could be pushed in front of me, glide along side of me, or it could be pulled behind me. I loved how flexible this made walking through the airports and train stations.
I did notice that at times it seemed like the handle wanted to twist a little and that suggested weakness in the handle. I don’t think my bags were packed unusually heavy, but I would anticipate this “twisting” to worsen if I had packed heavier. I did find that I could lessen this affect by only having the handle distended one level. The higher it was, the more twisty it was.
Something that took some getting used to is the way the bag opens. Since this luggage opens in the center of the bag, I often didn’t use the luggage racks in the hotel rooms the way they were intended to be used (Usually the top part opens against the wall and the main part of the bag lays open on the luggage rack). I found that the only way I could use it was to center the bag on the rack and open it, leaving the bottom 12-15” or so hanging off the edge of the rack. This wasn’t really an issue, but it could be if I was in a smaller room or had limited space. I will say that I found the even distribution of both sides of the bag to be a huge advantage when packing. Both sides have a good amount of space, and I thought it gave me more options than I am accustomed to.
Not a huge thing, but I’m the kind of person who packs everything and is heading out the door when I realize one more thing needs to be crammed into the bag. Usually, that’s when I utilize the outside pockets on my luggage. This suitcase has no outside pockets so requires reopening the entire bag (including the locks) just to add that almost forgotten item. Hopefully, I ‘ll be able to alter my routine in the future to make sure 100% is packed before I close and lock the bag.
I’m not sure if this is the case or not, but the instructions state to use a pen to open the lock for the first time and reset it. I’m wondering if ANYONE can use a pen to reset it? If so, it’s not very secure. Having said that, it’s still probably a deterrent to a thief that has choices of unlocked bags vs locked bags.
It’s now been over a year and a half since I purchased this bag—I go on 5 or more international trips per year for work (usually requiring several flights and train rides) and it’s gotten a fair amount of use. It seems to be holding up well. No issues with the wheels or the zippers which are usually the parts of the luggage to go first.
One last thing that I want to mention… my previous bag was not a hard case, and I found it easy to remove the bar code stickers that the airlines put on the bag. On this bag, because it’s a hard case, it isn’t so easy to remove the stickers. Once they are removed, they leave a sticky residue which collects dirt. If I were a better planner, maybe I would take them off at home and use some goo gone to get off the stickiness. Instead, I’ve resorted to using a marker to put a line through each bar code so they can't be re-scanned and leaving them on my bag. I now have a ton of little white stickers all over the bag. Is it pretty? No. But I've started to look at them like the old time stamps that people had on their luggage. Each one signifies a trip that I went somewhere.

Poor Samsonite quality and warranty

I purchased this product and decided it was better to go with Samsonite over any other brand because of their reputation and warranty. However, the very first time I used it, I was half way across the world and realized the zipper does not close. I had to buy a strap to keep it closed in the airport. I am lucky all my luggage did not fall out. I could not return it to Amazon because it was beyond their 30 day limit. I opened a warranty support ticket with Samsonite and never heard back after a month of waiting. I called Samsonite on my day off (they're only open M-F 9-5) and they said I have to pay for shipping this huge suitcase to the repair center or I can drive it to the nearest store an hour away and they will ship it for free. This is not the quality, warranty, or service that I thought made the Samsonite name. The warranty support person was not helpful at all, ignored my questions and was not willing to understand how I am being charged extra and inconvenienced for their manufacturing defect.

Bottom line, do not go with this product or any Samsonite product for that matter.

Lovely but HUGE DESIGN FLAW

HIGE DESIGN FLAW with luggage rendered worthless if zipper fails, which it did for me on first use.

Lovely set however the very first time we used the largest of the 3 pieces of luggage the suitcase zipper broke and hence the entire contents of the luggage spilled out everywhere. And since the design of the luggage completed depends on the zipper holding the two halves of the hard-shell luggage together, and the zipper was then damaged, the luggage was completely useless and couldn't carry anything without my holding the two halves together. I was stuck on the other side of the country with a ton of clothes (it is a large suitcase and carried quite a lot of clothes) and no suit case.

This is a huge design flaw because the integrity if the 3 suit cases depends on the zipper. But since the handle to carry the luggage is anchored to only one half, it means the zipper has to support the weight of the entire suitcase. This isn't so bad with the 2 smaller bags, but the largest holds a lot of clothes hence a lot of weigh hence the zipper is almost guaranteed to fail very quickly in my case. I know Samsonite brands themselves as durable luggage, but I don't know how this flaw could have passed stress testing, so I wonder if they ever actually tested the largest of the Winfield 2 Fashion set.

1.5 months and 5 countries later, I absolutely LOATHE this suitcase!

I had plans this summer to travel for 6 weeks for a combination of work and pleasure. I already have a small hard shell with 4 wheels that I absolutely love, and I thought going up in size would be the perfect way to make these trips tolerable. Boy was I wrong.

This suitcase was engineered by someone who failed basic physics. There are 2 fundamental flaws with it:
1. The wheels: The 4 tiny wheels are absolutely NOT designed to carry the bulk of this suitcase. While mine haven't completely broken off yet, they are barely hanging... after just 6 weeks of use!
2. The size(?): The whole points of the 4 wheels is to be able to roll the suitcase without having to bear any of the weight yourself. This feature is literally impossible with this bag. I have to roll it with two hands, which leads to me tripping on it/kicking it every other step. So then I try rolling it while bent over it, and that just doesn't work either because my back gives out after a while. So then I just roll it the way I would a 2 wheeler which is just stupid given what this is designed to do. I don't know how this passed testing.

Unfortunately I bought this just before a trip and by the time I came back, it was out of the 30 day return window. I absolutely regret this and will forgo buying from this brand in the future given how poorly designed this bag was.

Wheel broke after after a few months, loose threads everywhere

The wheel broke after a few short months (see attached photo), and I kept finding loose threads in the luggage.
The warranty is very problematic - either ship it yourself (at your own expense), or find a store that will ship it for you (not so common - might be hours away). And even then, it can take many weeks for them to return it.
I expected a much better quality from the Samsonite brand name.
