I have been researching and trying underseat bags for several months. I had this bag at one point, put my things in it and felt unsure. I found another Samsonite bag I thought I would like better because it had a padded place for a tablet so I sent this one back, bought the other bag, and used it on a trip. Ultimately, I have purchased this bag again. Obviously, I am keeping the other bag since I've used it, but in the end I like this bag better. The padded tablet compartment in the other bag was in the same place as the unpadded snap on in the main compartment and it turned out to be very inconvenient for accessing during flight, as well as created bulk in such a small bag. Since the bag is with me at all times and my tablet has a protector I don't feel the padding was necessary. The two bags are essentially the exact same size. The other is more stiff or molded in the front pocket which also seemed to be less convenient in the end. The other one had fewer interior pockets which I thought I would like, this one has a lot of little pockets and I thought it would be a problem. The other one had one large mesh pocket on the inside of the main compartment which I used for electronic cables and other accessories and they were a mess the entire time, but no other pocket was big enough to accommodate. The pockets in this one are nice for organizing electronics and I think your bigger devices, such as tablet or laptop, would be perfectly safe in the main compartment with the other things depending on what you have packed and the device itself. As I said, my tablet has a case of its own so it will be perfectly fine without a separate padded compartment.
You won't fit a water bottle in either of the side pockets as indicated unless you leave them unzipped as they are pretty flat, but they work perfectly for your travel documents. A large cell phone would fit but I like my phone in the front so I can keep the bag turned toward me when I'm sitting in the airport, that way I know no one will steal my phone. I guess the same could be said of the travel documents but at least they have to have your ID so whatever you think of that mess.
The 3-1-1 bag that is included is useless for the purpose in my opinion because of the zipper. It's not on the top, it's on the side of the bag and does not go the entire width of the bag making packing it with bottles very difficult. It's a cute little vinyl bag but not for it's stated purpose. If they would change the zipper to the top and make it go the full width of the bag it would be a great addition.
Since the two bags I am referencing are the same size, this one actually being very slightly smaller since it is not molded in front, I can tell you it fits under the seat on a small Delta regional plane very easily. I would have easily had room to put my large purse next to it in a first class seat, but I didn't have it with me. I'm confident it would have fit fine in the main cabin as well. Part of the flight had the box for the video system under the seat so space was limited, but I was still was able to put the bag under the seat in front of me. I think it stuck out just a bit since I wanted it going in the long way so I could access my things, but it was allowable. I am small and short so I didn't mind the intrusion into my foot space, for someone tall it might be a concern, but Delta will absolutely allow it.
Interestingly, when I reordered the bag I ordered two and one had very nice vinyl, it was soft and flexible, the other had some very stiff type vinyl I felt would crack easily. I'm not sure why there was such a difference, but I exchanged it.
As for packing, I am one to hates to gate check and want my bag under the seat in front of me so I can access my things during the flight. I'm also terrified the airline will lose my luggage so I want as much in my carryon as possible. I was traveling to the Caribbean for a week when I was trialing this bag. Though I chose the other bag I had packed this one at home before returning it, so I can say I got more in it. I love organizing and things that help me organize, but I was worried all the small pockets would actually be detrimental. It's why I say I was unsure about this bag, I thought something with fewer pockets would actually be better. The pockets are nice for organizing your small things you might want to access in the airport or on the plane without having to unpack half your stuff.
As for size, it is a carryon, it's not a small suitcase. I have a Samsonite small suitcase and this is markedly smaller. For the minimalist or the savvy packer you might make this do as your suitcase, but for most of us this is a carryon. It's called an underseater because it is. If you are wondering about the size or how much you could get in the bag picture something that will fit in the space under the seat in front of you. It's smaller than a child suitcase. I have a soft side carry on, the type with no wheels that came with an old set of luggage and was called a carry on, and though the shape is different if you put them next to each other they are basically the same size and capacity is the same if that helps you.
As far as people saying the handle is flimsy, I've looked at easily a dozen bags in this category and they are all about the same. I looked at a couple that were significantly more expensive and they felt slightly more sturdy, but not enough so to make me spend the money. The handle on my large suitcase wiggles a little and sometimes requires a little jiggle to get it to go down. If you treat it with some respect and don't pack it with bricks and try to haul it over the open road I think it will hold up nicely. The wheels are the standard suitcase type wheels which should hold up fine indoors. I have read a few reviews of people using this for school and other uses that would seem to involve more weight and outdoor time and I'm not sure how long the bag would hold up under those conditions. It was designed to be used primarily for lightweight packing and wheeled indoors for the most part so use outside that will skew reviews, just saying. My rationale is if a checked bag is to be less than 50lbs the manufacturer probably thought this thing would carry 10-15lbs? And used mostly in the airport not outside? I'm sure some people can get a lot more in it and it works for a lot of other things, but might not hold up as well so no complaining.
It's not a spinner, it has only two wheels, but I still find it to move easily. The zippers have worked fine on all four of the ones I've purchased. The first one I ordered was the pink and it is really a bright pink, deep not a light color, but bright. I liked it, but the others I ordered were black just because TSA has a knack for tearing up your checked bag so I'll have to replace that now and then so black will match whatever I buy and they are standard black luggage color.

While most travelers are not going to be adopting the super minimalist approach of a long-term nomad, I thought it would still be useful to know just how much can fit in this bag.However, I do have to note that I am a small woman traveling with lightweight merino wool clothing that doesn't take up a lot of room. Still, this bag is holding up well. I've stuffed an even smaller backpack in the trolley strap on the back of the Samsonite Underseater and tied an ultra-light down coat to handles. So I am actually prepared for traveling through 4 seasons with this small bag as my main suitcase.I wanted a small bag with one big compartment, 2 wheels and a luggage sleeve in back. Bonus points for the side pockets for a water bottle & umbrella. So this small suitcase fits the bill perfectly. With one big main compartment, this small suitcase fits an amazing amount of stuff.See my photo of it stuffed with 4 packing cubes 10x7x3, 1 cube 7x5x3, a pair of boots in a shoe bag and a toiletries bag. That is literally enough clothes for months, if you know how to pack. Theoretically, you could travel the world with just this suitcase.The water bottle pictured is a 20 oz. Rubbermaid, but you won't be able to zip up something that size if the interior is jam packed. For normal carry on items, you should have no trouble utilizing both side pockets for maximum effectiveness. Though the umbrella still needs to be a small one.Mini tablet, phone, even a small purse can fit in the front exterior zippered compartment. And as others have mentioned, there are an astonishing amount of pockets. The flap inside the lid snaps off and the one that folds out the front can be attached to the Velcro on the bottom of the suitcase.The one nitpick I have is that I feel the Velcro is unnecessary. It will prevent people from just throwing in some types of clothes because they will catch on the Velcro.I do like the black flap and side snaps for holding things in place. Most people will be throwing odds and ends in this size bag, not packing cubes, including me. And the normal straps are not as effective for keeping that kind of stuff under control. Using the front flap and the black one, you've got everything covered and can still use the visible pockets for things you might want accessible during a flight besides what's in the exterior pocket.It's sturdy, well-made, and not too heavy. Samsonite is a good, and reliable, brand.Still, while I adore this bag, I do have to admit I thought it was a bit overpriced for its size at more than $79. However, the price apparently fluctuates more than I realized, and it is available from Amazon Prime for as low as $60.34 with free returns as I write this. So if you don't need it right away, and it's higher than that when you read this, keep an eye out for lower prices.A few words about wheels.
