Samsung SSD 850 EVO 2.5-Inch SATA III
Transform your PC with the Samsung 850 EVO 2.5-Inch SATA III SSD. Featuring Samsung V-NAND technology and Dynamic Thermal Guard protection, the 850 EVO ensures the integrity of your data even under heavy workloads. The 2.5-inch form factor is an ideal fit for most desktop PCs and laptops. With exceptional read/write speeds and TurboWrite technology, the 850 EVO can easily handle high-intensity tasks such as video editing, data analysis, and gaming.
What's in the Box:
- Samsung 850 EVO 2.5 inch SATA III SSD, 120GB.
V-NAND Technology Maximizes Endurance Under Intensive Workloads
The 850 EVO SSD features Samsung vertical NAND (V-NAND) technology that stacks cell layers on top of one another to increase density, performance, and efficiency while creating a smaller footprint. When compared with the conventional Planar NAND technology over a five-year period, V-NAND technology increases endurance, prolongs lifespan, and is more resistant to wear when under heavy client workloads.
Fast Read/Write Speeds with TurboWrite Technology and RAPID Mode
Using Samsung TurboWrite technology, the 850 EVO creates a high-performance write buffer area that accelerates performance whenever a write operation is underway. To boost performance for up to 2x faster* data processing speeds, you can activate RAPID Mode, a feature that reduces performance bottlenecks by utilizing unused PC memory as cache storage. These features make the 850 EVO ideal for demanding applications such as gaming, graphic and sound design, and data analysis.
Thermal Monitoring and Encryption for Data Security
The 850 EVO uses AES 256-bit hardware-based drive encryption** to ensure your data is kept secure from unwanted access. It also features Dynamic Thermal Guard, a technology that automatically throttles the drive's temperature when it approaches dangerous levels to reduce the risk of overheating.
The 850 EVO is also backed by a five-year warranty up to 75TBW (Terabytes Written)***.
Multiple Form Factors for Almost Any Need
The 850 EVO is available in multiple form factors to meet your specific needs. The 2.5-inch size is designed to fit most desktop PCs and laptops, while the SATA-based M.2 and mSATA are ideal for ultra-slim mobile computing.
* Compared to same drive w/out RAPID enable.
** AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption is compliant with advanced security management solutions, such as IEEE 1667 and TCG Opal.
*** 5 years or 75TBW, whichever comes first.

What I will say is that it was easy to install on my desktop PC because I had an extra SATA cable and the necessary SATA power connector from my PSU. Once I had it plugged in and had the provided Samsung data migration software installed on my old HDD, the OS clone was an absolute snap. Which I will commend them for because I've got my OS set up exactly the way I want it and I did not want to change a thing just to upgrade to an SSD.
The only complaint I have about this SSD (and many of them) is that on the hardware side, you get nothing to help you out if you're going to install this in a desktop. You don't get an adapter bracket. You don't even get a cheap SATA cable. I would guess that at least half the people who buy this are buying it for the boot drive on their desktop. Most cases that are a few years old simply do not have a suitable mounting solution for a 2.5" drive. So if you don't want to pay another $5 and wait for a bracket to be delivered separately, you either have to improvise a mounting solution or you just connect the drive and let it dangle inside your case. It works but it's hardly ideal. It's just dumb. Such a nice product. Such a great upgrade. Such an obvious oversight.
Yes. The drive is inexpensive (as SSDs go) but in this economy, $70 isn't chump change. It wouldn't destroy them financially to include a cheap piece of metal and some screws. I guess they just do it because they can. Which is kind of sad. I have four open 3.5 inch drive bays and my SSD is laying on top of my power supply.
