Once the new drive was in, I did a fresh install of OS X 10.10 from USB stick. I realize the case is superfluous and rather irrelevant in an internal SSD (it will never be seen again after re-inserting the back cover), but once installed amid the tidy MacBook innards, the drive looks perfectly at home, actually matching the other components in terms of aesthetics. NOTE: once your drive is installed and configured in your Mac, restart holding option command r p to make your computer stop looking for the old boot drive and start up right away (google 'option command r p' for details). Luckily for me, Samsung just released the M.2 version of their 850 Evo series. It arrived yesterday and I wiped the PC and started with a fresh install of Windows. I played a few games at max everything for a few hours and it ran like a champ. With the 5400 I was having issues with texture load and occasional FPS drops, but with the 850 Evo M.2 I am seeing 90+FPS constant and everything loads extremely quickly. Only negative I have is the current version of Samsung Magician doesn't recognize the 850 Evo M.2 so you can't enable any extra functions yet. I imagine they will have a new release soon that resolves this. Even without it, I have no complaints. Still have another M.2 slot so if the price comes down enough, a second one of these may be in my future... A perfect SSD upgrade for my Samsung NP900X4C Laptop

This SSD was purchased to upgrade the 128 GB mSATA SSD in my Samsung NP900X4C laptop. The 850 EVO is a perfect mechanical fit in this laptop. I used the Samsung Data Migration software and my mSATA to USB adapter to clone the 128 GB SSD. The cloning process went smoothly, the SSD installed easily, and the laptop booted right up. I run a lot of simulations on this laptop and the 850 EVO is processing them with no problems. It's been running 24X7 for over a week now. I also installed and run Samsung Magician V 4.6 to optimize the operation of the SSD. This version recognizes the 850 EVO mSATA SSD.

No Samsung support software

Samsung SSD 850 EVO mSATA installed in my Lenovo T420 laptop with no problems. I installed Windows 7 Pro on it with no problems. The laptop computer seems to run good. No software and limited documentation were delivered with the SSD drive. I downloaded the Samsung Magician from Samsung site, version 4.5, but it failed to support the drive. Samsung support says support will be on next release. So the drive seems to run fine, but I can do no tuning or checking due to no support software.
Update note: Description on Amazon says this is a 2 inch drive. The drive actually measures 1.18" x 2" x 0.15" so the side with the contacts in only 1.18 inch. All other drive types, such as 2.5 or 3.5 are the measurements of the contact side. This drive fit into the bottom slot on my Lenovo T420 laptop with no problems. A 2 inch wide drive would not fit.
Update: I can now confirm that the Samsung Magicial software at level 4.6 works on both the 2.5 inch and mSATA SSDs. This software was released 6 weeks after I purchased my drives.

Beats a Crucial MX100, but still waiting for Samsung Magician support

As others have said, Samsung Magician does not, as yet, recognize this drive (v 4.5). Unlike what others have said, I had no problem using Samsung Data Migration software with this drive (v 2.7.1). You can still use Samsung Magician to run performance benchmarks (b/c that functionality works with any installed drive - Samsung or not). You cannot, as yet, use the RAPID mode or Performance Optimization. Having said that, here are some performance comparisons. The mSATA Samsung 850 EVO showed Seq Read of 550 MB/s, Seq Write of 525 MB/s, Random Read of 97,209 IOPS, Random Write of 88,076 IOPS. By comparison, a Crucial MX100 installed in the same laptop showed: Seq Read of 559 MB/s, Seq Write of 507 MB/s, Random Read of 83,557 IOPS, and Random Write of 84,238 IOPS.
