I have it installed in a Linux system where it serves the dual role of root partition as well as VM backing storage for several heavily used VMs.
It's so fast there's no way to tell that the drive is being shared, no VM pauses, no compiler slowdowns. The downside of all that speed, if you want to consider it a downside, is that I managed to eat through 1% of the drives rated lifetime (4TB of 400TBW) within 24 hours before stopping the poorly written process that was causing all the write traffic. Samsung drives are known for surviving well beyond their rated life, but that's also where the warranty ends, regardless of how long you've owned the drive, so be careful.
The drive gets so hot it requires a heatsink, it's really not optional. Sure, it'll throttle itself to avoid overheating, but so would the main CPU if you left it in open air. Anything that makes this much heat needs a way to get rid of it, and SSDs tend to have shorter lives or die unexpectedly when the heat isn't properly handled.
I bought some small pure copper heatsinks from Enzotech here (BMR-C1) and lined them up all the way down the entire stick, covering every chip, then I put a small fan inside the case positioned so that the airflow goes through the heatsink bars. It no longer throttles itself under load, and S.M.A.R.T. shows the temperature remaining well below the previous high points I was seeing, even when writing at the maximum speed.
Note that there is a firmware update available that you absolutely do not want, the 3B6QCXP7 firmware has very serious problems and cannot be removed or reverted once the update is done. If you get a new stick with the 3B6QCXP7 firmware, you should return it immediately or contact Samsung customer support.
TL;DR │ Most insane NVMe drive yet. Insanely fast, insanely expensive, for insane people.
- - - - -
I am one of those insane people. I have 512GB (2×256GB) 950 Pro in RAID 0 for my gaming build, a 512GB 950 Pro for my laptop, and now, a 512GB 960 Pro (for the same laptop). From my first tests (RAID mode), two 256GB 950 PRO in RAID 0 (512GB total) is on par with a single 512GB 960 Pro, with the RAID having minuscule edge on random writes. This test was done with IRST (Intel) drivers.
On my second tests, I used Samsung NVMe drivers, under AHCI mode in BIOS. It is evident how much faster the 960 PRO is compared to the 950 PRO.
I do use "regular" NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 drive from Intel (600p), and I use it only for a NAS build OS. For day to day, the difference is negligible, and I would still recommend getting those less expensive NVMe drives. (Just skip the SATA... and the hard drives.) These Samsung "PRO-series" drives are for people who just wants the best and who do not mind paying for them.
WHAT I LIKE │ + │
+ Looks good, not plain.
+ Sticker/heat spreader orientation not upside down anymore
+ Better thermals than the 950 Pro
+ Faster than a single 512GB 950 Pro
WHAT I DON'T LIKE │ × │
× Packaging can use better protection.
× Other computers will seem slow, that you'd get rage from using them.
× It is also worth noting that it took a long time to deliver because of product delay.
PACKAGE │ ✓ ✗ │
✓ SSD on insecure plastic cradle
✓ Printed materials
✗ No freebies
For tests, I am putting this on an Alienware 13 R3, together with a 950 Pro. My machine has an i7-6700HQ, 32GB of usable RAM, and a discrete GPU. See photos for results. Both 512GB drives are tested in exactly the same configuration (cloned). The 2×256GB 950 PRO in RAID 0 is in a different machine.
UPDATE: The first tests were done in RAID mode, using Intel drivers. I reformatted both drives, and reconfigured BIOS to use AHCI mode. This made it possible to use Samsung drivers. I uploaded another benchmark comparison (excluding the RAID 0 drive).

VERDICT: I highly recommend this product for people who's okay with paying for it.

This review is for the Samsung 960 PRO - Series 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD .
Running on my 2016 HP Omen laptop at approximately 3000 read / 2000 write.
Not entirely sure why its not at advertised 3600, but I imagine its not the drive, and likely some system limitation.
No complaints, games, apps, OS - everything loads much faster now.
Advice: Never get laptops with anything but minimum SSD/Ram configuration - the SSD and Ram hardware that manufacturers usually put into their retail products are the cheapest models you can find. Its all about profit. You're getting cheated. Get the lowest available config then replace it with quality hardware like this drive.
I have a SATA 850 EVO (read write ~500mbs) in my other computer. Boot times are similar. The real power comes when reading or transferring very large files. With very large files or gaming, it's worth every penny. Is it needed for most? No, but neither is a lifted truck, a Harley Davison, a beautiful home, or a spouse who looks stunning but doesn't talk. Do we all want them, yes! Do we "need" them, nope. Apply the same rules here. One thing is certain. It's a lot less expensive than a divorce! Yes, a little tongue and cheek, but you get the idea 🤣

475 GigaBytes are user available. Read Write speeds are astonishing. I have included screenshots below. Samsung claims 3500 MBps Seq Read and 2100 MBps Seq write. Real world speeds are quite close at ~3300 MBps Read and 1800 MBps Write.
Make sure your device has at least 4 PCIE 3.0 lanes to reach optimum speeds.
