I sit up straight, my teeth are aligned, my dog isn’t sick anymore, I have inboxes on several social medias full of women begging me for attention, my bank account is overflowing, and doctors have been flooding my voicemail asking me if they can inspect my brain due to my genius. Before I purchased this SSD, my life was in shambles. I was about to flop out of my job because they believed I wasn’t capable enough to do their mindless work (I literally just stack boxes), my dog was sick and the vet had told me they needed to do numerous tests on her, I had an egregious hunch, I was obese, I smelled like old sticky grease, my gf(ex) cheated on me then dumped me through text, and I was about to be kicked out my parent’s house. What made me want to purchase this was a round of Rainbow Six. I was playing casual, complaining about my teammates (even though it was casual) when they made fun of my load times. I figured it wasn’t urgent because I didn’t know what was wrong with my pc; I thought it worked just fine. This was until they started spamming “ssd” while I was trashing their casual match strategies. Being the degenerate I once was, I had let my insecurities get the best of me. I alt-tabbed and crashed my r6, but it’s okay it was just casual. Anyway, I alt-tabbed and searched what an ssd was. I looked decently deep into it and found this product. I figured $200 isn’t so bad so I bought it. Instantly, I feel something has changed. Like the universe did a complete 180 on my life and decided I wouldn’t be thrown to waste. My bones rattled and my feet began to separate from the floor. The instant the network recognized my phone ordered this product, the course of history (more importantly my history) was forever changed. I’m not sure what happened outside of the sensation of my body separating from gravity because my eyes were forced shut. However, when I could see again, everything was still. The soft hum of my pc fans was still present, my fan was still blowing air, the birds still chirping, yet I felt… indescribably invigorated. Like I was at a complete balance in my life. Without a second thought I fell from this floating position and stood straight. I looked in the mirror and decided there was change for me in the future. I bought a gym membership and biked there according to a schedule. Within the week, the SSD arrived and I had already made significant progress in my physique and social life. I showered normally, ate better, dressed cleaner, smelled great, and my teeth were straight. Perfectly straight, for no reason at all. On top of this, after my floating incident, I found my dog energetic and happy. No longer was she sleeping all day unable to get up by herself. She was happy and healthy. So healthy we had done a 4 mile jog just before the SSD arrived. I met the mailman and he complimented my appearance, and I returned the favor. Once I had flung the package from the device, I had nothing else in mind except to get this thingy mabob into my pc. I tore off my graphics card and jammed it in then used a screw from the internals of my crappy xbox controller to secure it. Shoving the graphics card back in was the technically hardest part because the entire process was so f’n easy!!! Once my hdd was cloned onto the ssd, it was set. I booted it through the ssd and everything went dark. I couldn’t see again, but my eyes were open. I “awoke” in a dark and muddy cave. I’m not sure how the transition happened, but nevertheless I was there and that’s all I should have been paying attention to. I noticed that I wasn’t sitting in my chair anymore, I was standing on a little clearing of rock with a mud pond around me. I turn to my back and see a man lit by a crevice in the ceiling standing about 20 feet away from me in this small clearing. I approach him with caution, but I trust my decision as I had known deep within me that he was the one who had chosen this path for me. As I grew near, he asked me “Why did you take so long?” Without leaving me a second to register his words, I felt like I was sucked through a cosmic tube and teleported back into my chair. It left me startled, but then wondering… why didn’t I just get an ssd sooner? The following week I told my managers I would be quitting. With my newly-upgraded pc, I invested in crypto and overnight I made millions. I have no need for “load times” anymore. How amusing it is just thinking about it. Imagine having to wait for a game to start. That is unless someone else in the game has an hdd. Next time you find yourself waiting on some skrub to load into a game, make sure to harass him based on his hardware.

Great, one you figure out how to intall it

May Windows 11-based Yoga 6 came with 256SSD and I wanted to upgrade it to 1TB. 970 EVO Plus at $99 is a fair price point so I went with it. I had an M.2 enclosure for SSD, so I figured I was ready to go with the migration tool as I have done before with other PCs to clone my internal C: drive onto the new SSD. Installed SSD into the Sabrent enclosure and attached it to the laptop and it got detected promptly. I was able to add it and create a D: drive volume on it for testing purposes and all of that worked fine. Trouble started when I attempted to use the Samsung migration assistant to clone my C: drive onto the new SSD. Samsung migration assistant clearly sees and identifies the source and target drives. As soon as I start the cloning process it just sits there. I gave up to 30 minutes thinking that it is doing something and will start any second. Nope, nothing. Google it around, not the cloning size, I am putting a 256GB onto 1TB no issues there. May be bad disk SFC and CHECKDISK and nothing. Everything is good, except that I am stuck at 0 percent. Google over and multiple article typing to paddle AOMEI Backupper which is free for backup but not for cloning. Now, I am getting a little ticked off. This is a new unit and I expected the Samsung utility to handle it. After fighting with it another hour and attempting to use another free cloning app, it was brought to my attention by this other app that my C: drive had the BitLocker enabled. That was a surprise because I know I didn't do it. Further research suggests that MS in their wisdom decided to implement BitLocker on your C: drive by default, just like the crazy CloudDrive as part of standard Windows 11 implementation. Thanks, MS, as usual for knowing better than me how to handle my o/s features. Immediately disabled the BitLocker which took a 10-15 minutes effort. As soon as tried the Samsung Migration assistant, it started to work properly and completed the cloning quickly. Generated cloned booted with no issues and I am happy with the result but not with the experienced torture on the way to get there. Lesson learned, if you have a Windows 11 based bitlocked C: drive your Samsung Migration Assistant will fail to clone it. Apparently, this is visible to a conversion app as the alternate app I almost used immediately told me that my C: drive has BitLocker on and the cloned copy will not have bitlocker. So, thank you MS and Samsung for shitty product support and policies. FYI: I was able register the production with the 15 digit serial number without any issues as reported by Samsung magician.

Beware Samsung Memory warranties

Nice SSD, nothing to complain about the actual drive.
But beware Samsung warranties.
They have no RMA process for Canada, for the whole Memory division (SSD, Flash cards, etc).
If you ever have issues with SSD, Samsung support is not going to provide any support. They put the responsibility back on the store/seller for the whole period product is supposed to be under warranty.
If the store refuses to refund, you're likely out of luck. Stores are generally not aware of those Samsung policies.
There are several articles on the Web on this subject, and I was personally affected by this issue.

Samsung doesn't honor warranties in Canada, buy another reputable brand

Once your 30 day window is closed with Amazon, you aren't going to be able to get the 5 year warranty covered by Samsung if any issues come up. They will simply redirect you back to the point of purchase with a warranty letter, as they don't cover the warranty themselves in Canada. However, Amazon won't care, and won't let you return anything outside of the 30 days they normally offer.

So basically, the warranty is useless if you buy a Samsung SSD through Amazon - it might as well have no warranty at all. You might expect these sort of headaches from some cheap "no name" brand, but not Samsung? Well, you should go ahead and search online about this and you'll see how common it is. Save yourself some hassle and buy another SSD brand! I'll never buy Samsung storage ever again, that's for sure.

Bang for buck upgrade

This m.2 form factor is for you if you are running a mid-high range system.

To give a quick overview of my current spec;
i7-7700k
16GB ddr4 HyperX RAM
2x Samsung 850 Evo 2.5” SATA 500GB
MSI GTX1060 6GB
ASUS Prime z270-a

Value:
This is a great upgrade if you are happy with your spec with video editing & graphics performance. I am not a heavy gamer nor I edit videos (thus my storage) but with lots of file transfer, new NVMe storage solution was the next go-to upgrade. @ $0.74 per GB and with NVMe m.2 form factor being the next generation storage solution, the price will be going down and already has. I purchased the current two SATA 500GB for about $170 so this was a no brainer for me. With read and write speed being about 5x faster (your mileage may vary explained below) you will instantly see an improvement in your quality of life when spending time transferring files or opening an application are now painless.

Installation:
This is a hard part for most people. If you currently have an m.2 ssd as a boot drive you already should know how to install/migrate the old boot drive to this one. Samsung Migration App is very straight forward and easy to use. But there are few hurdles. First initalize the drive first, I’m a total novice and didn’t realize I had to initialize the drive (SATA is easier as it has its own connection) as NVMe is read through PCIe slot so don’t fret if you don’t see the drive not being read on first boot.
Check your mobo if the support is there for newest gen m.2. I have z270 and boy was I glad I didn’t cheap out on mobo when I first bought it.
And finally check if you have the m.2 slot enabled to x4 speed in your BIOS. (Usually x2 or x4 as an option) and newest drivers installed both for Mobo and m.2.

Packaging:
Pretty simple, no BS packaging. I however personally don’t like excessive packaging but with electronics becoming smaller and more delicate I understand.. comes with manual and the m.2 stick. No screws, most mobo will include m.2 screws if they support it.

Overall:
Very happy with the purchase, again it’s a no brainer upgrade if you are content with cpu/gpu performance at the moment and looking to make your pc have a bit more snap. Definitely consider purchasing if you are in the market, Samsung has always made a quality product and this one (to issues with fakes going around from microSDs to SSDs) was made in Korea and with benchmark tests, was a legit piece. If you are looking for a long term and massive storage solution I suggest you instead go for Barracudas 4TB-8TBs with your favourite RAID settings, much more effective and cost efficient

I recently got a new ASUS SCAR STRIX with came with an Intel SSD which is ok but it simply isn't as fast as the SamSung options. My old laptop had dual 512GB 950 EVO drives which are still running, I only updated the laptop to get better CPU and GPU performance.

The below screen shot of Crystal Mark shows the read/write speed while the laptop was in use streaming video and running other functions, this provides a more realistic and real world representation of its capabilities in a working environment than the SamSung bench mark tool.

Installation was simple enough, once I got access to the MOBO it only takes one small screw to release the installed drive and replace with this one. All told, it took me about 10 minutes from starting to access the MOBO till I was able to fire up the machine.

I didn't have to install Windows and go through that hole saga, I used Acronis to clone the working drive to this one beforehand. I purchased an external SSD enclosure here on AMZ (make sure you find one that specifies NVMe PCIe M.2, there are a few options) which held the new drive. It took about 20 minutes for the clone process on a USB C connection to complete compared to several hours rebuilding a new install with all the programs and data. I use Acronis on a regular basis and it my primary back up tool.

There are a lot of options from various manufacturers but I've had the best performance and longevity from SamSung drives. We use SamSung SATA SSD'd in production servers with millions of writes every week and have yet to see one crater. We do rotate them out every 3 years to be safe but other brands have crashed, fortunately everything is in at minimum RAID 1 (depending on the server).

some of the recent Samsung 970 Evo's were found to have their memory controllers replaced during some sites restrictions and lack of materials in the midst of covid.

thus they decreased read speed and overall affectiveness and increased cache size to compensate.

wait for a deal or go for another version for around the same price.

This review was written on sept 5'th of 2021 just after it was found out, returned and found a 980 Pro with VRAM on sale for 15$ more at the time.
