3D Technology Checklist
This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use our checklist below to ensure that you have everything you need. If you have any questions or want to learn more about 3D, we invite you to visit 3D 101--our center for everything 3D. To get started with 3D, please ensure that you have:
A DisplayThe first--and most important--item you'll need is a 3D-ready display--whether it be a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays usually have a higher processing power than older models as they need to display one image for each eye to create a 3D effect.
A SourceWhile your display is ready for 3D playback, you still need a device to read 3D content (i.e., a movie or a show). This source can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3.
ContentIn order to watch 3D, you will need to get some 3D content. This 3D content will come from the source mentioned above in the form of a 3D program, movie, or game. Please ensure that your 3D movies are in the Blu-ray 3D format, as this new format will provide the best 3D experience.
3D GlassesAll 3D HDTVs on the market require Active Shutter glasses to create the 3D effect. You will need to buy one pair of glasses for each viewer. Also make sure that the Active Shutter glasses you buy are compatible with your display--for example, buy the glasses from the same brand as your 3D HDTV.
HDMI CableTo connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a hgh-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation--with bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second)--will be able to carry the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

Ultra Fast Play
At Samsung we believe there's always room for improvement. We applied this philosophy to eradicating the time it takes for a movie to actually start after inserting a disc into a Blu-ray or DVD player. Our BD-C6900 was engineered with Ultra Fast Play to eliminate those annoying load times. It gets you into the entertainment right away. So sitting down to watch your favorite drama no longer entails the drama of slow device booting and clumsy tray openings.

Sleek Design The BD-C6900 boasts a design that's both modernized and minimized, making it as much a part of your living room as it is your home theater system. With both TOP disc lighting and blue lighting, its logo shines when the player reads discs. Only 1.5" high, the BD-C6900's slim body hides the disc loading door, but through its cool transparent window on top you can see what disc is playing. Factor in its sleek, chic metal finish and there's no doubt that this player has the high-end looks to match its high-end performance.
AllShare Now you can enjoy music, movies and photos from your PC and mobile devices, right on your Samsung TV screen. With the BD-C6900's AllShare, wirelessly sync your PC or Samsung mobile phone with your TV, streaming content and even keeping tabs on who's calling and texting you with real-time monitoring on your screen. Samsung's AllShare makes staying connected easy.

But to avoid the cost of firmware upgrade, Samsung did not bother to upgrade their firmware on this particular Blu-Ray player after 2013. So any Blu-Ray disks produced after that time, which may have newer encryption software will not be able to play on this Blu-Ray player.
I called the Samsung support several times but every time same answer. "We don't have the latest firmware and we don't know when we will have" This has been situation since 2013. I don't expect them to release any newer firmware for this model any more. Now my $400 worth of blu-ray player is useless.
I believe these companies do this tactics intentionally so that people keep buying newer products and they keep making money. They intentionally make faulty products or products which breaks in short time so people will have to buy newer products. Its a big conspiracy which no one talks about. Government also in a way ignores it so the newer purchase can fuel the economy.
A few things I dislike about this player -
Slowness of fast-forwarding/rewinding: The fast-forward/rewind has 7 levels which are too many - levels 2, 4 and 6 should be removed to allow a smoother and quicker operation. There is a 1-second delay when moving between levels. For example, when I want to go forward two minutes, levels 1 and 2 are too slow but by the time I choose level 3, I have passed the place I want to be.
Samsung Internet gateway for Netflix: The Blu-ray player goes through Samsung's servers before reaching Netflix and sometimes a movie is slow and rebuffers or flashes with a blank screen. Twice I have used my Wii to try the same movie and there were no buffering issues. This is the main reason why I am currently looking for a new Blu-ray player.
Slowness of Blu-ray loading: Maybe this is common for all Blu-ray players but often it takes 15-30 seconds for the Blu-ray menu to load for a movie. I can't say this is better or worse than other players but it is something I find annoying.
Deep color option didn't work: It took me a while to figure out that enabling Deep Color was causing my screen to flash wildly. I made a video of this flashing problem on YouTube and the fix was easy by just disabling the option. My annoyance was Samsung didn't know how the solve the problem and simply blamed the Onkyo AV receiver I was using.
However, I am going to write about the built-in Apps, and more importantly Netflix. I bought this player primarily because it played Netflix, and Hulu Plus (in fact it's the only Blu-ray device currently certified to play Hulu Plus content). I wanted a simple interface for the bedroom that my wife could easily use, and this seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
Unfortunately, after spending an hour on the phone with Samsung Level 2 support they told me that it's a known issue that streaming HD content from Netflix on this player will cause it to buffer every few minutes (SD content does seem to play OK, but I admit to not using it for hours on end to confirm that). I haven't yet tried Hulu Plus, but can only imagine it suffers from the same buffering problems. The funny thing is that she also told me to delete everything from my instant queue, as that was known to cause problems too - are you kidding me?!
Now, I'm very tech savvy, and have 20 years IT experience, so I think that gives me license to say that it's not "User Error"!
So, for the record, I have this connected via a Netgear WNR3500L Wireless N router connected via TWC (clocked at about 14Mbit), and the player and router are about 30-40ft apart (with 2 non-brick walls in between) with a wireless signal of "Excellent" according to the player. I've tried setting the player as the highest priority in QoS, added it as a system in the DMZ (to allow all ports), and basically had it running as the only device connected to the router. I have a Wii, PS3, 2 laptops and a desktop, and they ALL stream Netflix perfectly, so I know it's not my setup.
So, a word of advice to anyone looking to buy this player for streaming. As of firmware 1014 (August 2010) it just doesn't work correctly. Will they fix it? They tell me "yes", but gave no ETA, so I'm returning it for a refund and will find something else for the bedroom. After looking at a number of other reviews, it would appear I am not the only one seeing this issue. Buyer beware!
UPDATED (9/17/2010) - I posted a similar review directly on Samsung's website, but they refused to publish it! They said it "...didn't meet one or more of the product review guidelines." Talk about trying to brush it under the carpet. Great work Samsung. I have now lost total respect for them, and will go back to Sony/Toshiba.
