Guaranteed by Samsung
For guaranteed performance, make sure to use only Samsung genuine water filters. Other brands or imitations may display a lower price and claim to be compatible with Samsung refrigerators, but only Samsung genuine filters are guaranteed by Samsung to deliver quality water filtration at Samsung’s specifications. Look for the five-star Samsung genuine water filter seal on the box to ensure you have an authentic product.
Removes More Than 99 Percent of Contaminants
The Samsung HAFCU1 Refrigerator Water Filter uses a powerful concentrated carbon filter. This filter eliminates over 99 percent of potentially harmful contaminants that may be present in water, including lead, mercury, microbial cysts, benzene, and carbofuran. It also eliminates the odor and taste of chlorine, a chemical that is widely used as a disinfectant in water treatment plants.
NSF-Certified for Healthier Drinking Water
Samsung water filters are tested by NSF International and certified to reduce harmful contaminants in your water. NSF International is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization dedicated to public health, safety, and environmental protection. The carbon components used in Samsung filters exceed the NSF/ANSI 53 standards for the reduction of chlorine taste and odor while retaining minerals beneficial to health.
Compatible with Most Samsung Side-by-Side Refrigerators
The HAFCU1 Water Filter is compatible with most Samsung side-by-side refrigerators that have an ice and water dispenser, including models RS22HDHPNSR, RS22HDHPNWW, and RS22HDHPNBC. The filters work with dispensers located inside or outside the refrigerator.
Replace Only Twice per Year
Replace your Samsung Water Filter every six months or every 350 gallons to maximize its effectiveness. When it is time to replace the filter, the filter light indicator on your refrigerator panel will turn red. The filter also comes with a sticker that you can place on the filter cartridge as a reminder. Replacing the filter is easy--just open the filter compartment, remove the old filter, and twist the new filter into place.

This month, my filter came from Amazon. It looked just like the old filter that I was replacing. Unfortunately, it would not screw in. I figured it was some sort of undetectable manufacturing defect and sent it back to Amazon for an exchange. This went smoothly.
However, the replacement also did not fit. I looked and looked to see if I could spot any difference between the old one and the new one.
For one thing the new one is labeled Samsung instead of Aqua-Pure. The model number remained the same DA97-00003G.
This was a puzzler. Then I noticed that the leading edge of the first "tooth" , on the original filter had a kind of wear to it.
Since this is the first contact of the filter with the receptacle, my thought was that this was the difference I was searching for.
I took the new filter and shaved about 0.5 mm off of the leading edge corner of the first tooth, on both sides. I used an ordinary X-Acto knife to do this.
Voila! It worked. I don't know why this is true but it is. I have enclosed pictures to demonstrate.
Hopefully this might be of some help to others with a similar problem.
This design for whatever reason has 3 teeth instead of 2. It is the first tooth (the shortest one on the left) that is causing the problem. The plastic used on these filters is quite soft. I took a utility knife (box cutter) and merely cut off that first tooth on both sides of the filter (one slice through the tooth and a second slice to chip it off). After that, the filter went on exactly as our old ones did.
It's exactly the same as the one I took out of our 6-mo.-old Samsung refrigerator and works the same - good. Good price, but I don't know where the retail price of $55 comes from; Samsung's online price is around $35, plus shipping and maybe sales tax. Overall, good package deal from Amazon.
While replacing, even though you've turned the water supply off to the refrigerator, you'll still get dripping water as you remove the old filter. I put a little pan on the shelf to catch the water and to make sure it's not leaking after installation. I had success on the first try.
Note on resetting the red indicator light: default instructions indicate holding two buttons for three seconds, except one model, which wasn't mine. However, my model is also a one-button reset, but it's more like 4 or 5 seconds. Just hold it down until it turns from red to green when holding it down, then release your finger.
We have a Samsung RSG257AARS refrigerator, 2012 manufacturing date. All along I've been putting in the original Samsung DA29-00003G replacement filters, or the HDX equivalent FMS-1 from Home Depot. We were due for a replacement so I ordered this three-pack of the Samsung original part. When I went to replace the filter, I couldn't get it to fit. First, it didn't seem to line up properly with the lock marks on the receiver. To get the filter to seat in the receiver, it had to be 1/4 off the "unlock" mark on the receiver. Then, it wouldn't turn. Tried again. No really. Wouldn't turn. OK, let's clear the top shelf, remove the shelf, and really reach in and give it some more welly. Two hands and the filter and it would not turn. Check the part number on filter. Check the web, make sure I really ordered the right filter for this fridge. Check the box. Check the filter again. Noticed the "tooth" pattern on the filter is different at the top (three teeth vs two on the old filter). The center hole diameter is also different. Uh oh. Maybe mislabeled product? Check the box again. All seems right. I have some food-safe silicone lube that I use on the o-rings of other filters in the house, so I applied some to the filter and tried again. No joy. What the heck is going on?
So I got on the phone with Samsung, and here's what I was told: first, the design of the filter has changed. I commented on the fact that the part number didn't change, and he just said that's what the engineers sometimes do.Read more ›
