If you have the 2016 model headset (2016 Black version) it does work. you have to go to the VR app, then go to "more" and then "controllers". From there is where you pair the controller to the Vr software. Just make sure you update the software first

Gear VR Continues To Exceed My Expectations!

This controller really surprised me once I had everything working together (S7 Edge + Gear VR Headset (2016) + Gear VR Controller). I own an HTC Vive (GTX 1070 @ 2.18Ghz + i7 3770K @ 4.5Ghz), so I know what the top tier VR experience is like currently and was expecting this to be more of a marketing feature vs. an actual VR experience. However, I was completely wrong and pulled up the exact same games/apps on my HTC Vive to compare to the Gear VR experience. For the money, the Gear VR setup/s win and this controller plays largely into that for me. Without this controller, you are forced to control everything with the headset. This controller gives you a much more immersive experience and I recommend it for anyone who already has the phone and headset that are looking for the "complete experience".

Meh...not worth 30 bones...but it works

So after using this first a few months, I have to say I'm not entirely impressed, you have limited movement as is with just the headset, so not being able to actually move the controller around for secondary movement is a bit...meh. Sure you can move up, down, left, right. But there is no z to the x and y, so it feels as though it should be on a joystick that's stuck to the chair. It has no internal battery, but slap some rechargeable AAA batts in there and ur good.
You have to calibrate every other couple of minutes because it can't just stay callibrated.
BUT
For a controller it's not bad, shooting games are good, point and click games are good. The design is solid, and don't entirely hate it as it keeps me from having to smack my head to do stuff. But it definitely isn't worth the 30 bucks.

Almost perfect, but best one yet

Tried a few out there. They really didn't work that well. Or there was connection issues. No real problem with this one. Except occasionally you have to reorient the controller. Only takes a second and only about once every 10 minutes. But the press pig one button and you're done.

Makes the Samsung Gear VR Headset MUCH easier to use!

Makes using the Samsung Gear VR headset a much more enjoyable experience. Works on two AAA batteries, which were included. Putting the strap on was a bit of a pain, but that's a one time issue threading it through the correct hole and looping it into place. Once I connected it to my cellphone, there was an immediate update for the device that only took a couple of minutes. Makes playing games and even choosing selections much easier. Should be included with the headset!

It works ok and really depends on the app/game you are using. It does have one flaw that really annoys me. If it sits idle for a few minutes, you have to recalibrate it before you can use it. And maybe it's just mine but there's no power button so I have to remove the batteries when I'm finished or they will be dead. Then each time I put the batteries back I have to set the remote up to work with my system all over again. Most of the time I find it just a hassle and wind up using the one I already had.

Unpractical when in a moving vehicle because calibration.

Alright, so I picked this up in hopes to use it when on car trips with my friends. You know, something passengers could enjoy and pass it around with the GearVR. However, I ran into a snag that I don't think will be fixed. The problem is that the calibration of the remote before use. The controller can be wonky at time when just using it in your house and at those time you just need to calibrate it again. But when you are in a moving vehicle the calibration will not work. Mainly because it asks you to leave the controller still for a moment. But that is impossible in a moving car. Besides using it for travel the controller is pretty cool. I used it with a fishing game and it work fairly well. Note: that this controller does not add precise movement of your hand. It just estimates the orientation of the controller with your arm and hand. So if you are looking for full tracking you'll have to use Vive or Oculus to get that result. Overall, nice addition to the GearVR, but sadly unusable when on the road.

I have not tried this in a plane, but I imagine you would run into the same problem.

Feels good in the hand. I like that it comes with the strap to attach the controller to your headset, so you don't misplace it. Also it comes with batteries in the package. Not too much available to utilize it, but I'm sure things are coming. Because it's Bluetooth it will connect to any galaxy device that is able to be used with the Gear VR.
