First off this is not the 2017 version it is the 2016 version. Model code is sm-323 which is the 2016 version. So beware if you have a current Samsung device.
Secondly the photos and in the description it very specifically stated that there would be a controller... I did not receive a controller at all. Very disappointed overall.
This would be a five star item if it didn't overheat my phone (Samsung Galaxy S6) EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I purchased this for my 10 year old son's birthday. I'll say the graphics on the games we downloaded are awesome, especially the ocean exploration game. And it was fairly easy to set up and very easy to download games. But you can only play about 10 minutes before you get a message that the phone (or the headset) is overheating and needs to be shut down. I called Samsung tech support and the nice young lady walked me through some steps which involved clearing the phone's cache, starting the phone in safe mode, waiting an hour (!) then restarting in regular mode.
That seemed to work a little bit, because the next time he was able to play for about 20 minutes before it overheated. But after that, it was back to about 10 minutes. Very, very aggravating! Am I supposed to do the cache clearing and waiting an hour for every 10 minutes of play? Plus I don't know if the consistent overheating is damaging the phone. When I disconnect the phone from the headset after the overheating incidents, it does feel very hot to the touch.
Anyway, this is a frustrating problem. If not for this problem, this would be an awesome, outstanding product.
Surroundings will blow your mind. Like you are there. Waitibg for graphics to get a bit better on FPS games and more FPS War games in general. Imagine playing Battlefield 4 using these headsets!?
It would be so true to life and real like you were on the battlefield.
Most of all i like watching Netflix and completely emersing myself in the screen
The newer Gear VR headset will fit the Note 8 better, but that's about the only difference other than moving the volume controls. The remote makes everything much easier and works well enough. The headset itself is pretty comfortable, even with extended usage.
The headset itself is rather tricky to get working the first time. The straps might not feel great on the head, but that's easy to adjust. Long hair beware! Also with the additional controller mount the headset can feel a bit lopsided. So i'd recommend strapping the sides first.
The lens can take time to adjust right, but the range is nice and high if you are near/far sighted which is a real plus.
You can also adjust your internal resolution to 2K, giving you a much higher fidelity in certain videos and games. Can use way more battery though.
The controller is rather basic but very functional for basic games. The tracking is mostly based on an internal gryo method, which is accurate in orientation but will not track distance. That will be an adjustment from those playing in usual vr setups.
Buttons are easy to remember, but hard to associate when playing games. This goes away over time when you get a feel for it.
This controller uses AAA batteries so be sure to snag some beforehand as mine didn't come with any (purchased used)
It has and can play anything the Oculus Go can play, as well as any extra android apps that support it. It's a pretty big bonus for this system over it. Smash Hit is damn near essential on mobile VR since it's a great intro game to the system. (Like how Superhot VR is to desktop VR)
Comes with some free stuff, but mostly video related stuff.
The battery will drain on this thing! Thankfully you can plug this into an external power supply using a usb-c cable. This to me seems like the best way to enjoy this for longer than forty minutes.
The internal plug can be swapped from usb-b to usb-c which is a nice plus, allowing use with multiple models from Samsung.
While not as in-depth as desktop VR, this will probably give you a taste into VR and might just make you eager enough to try and get the real deal. The best aspect is without a doubt being able to watch 360 videos, where news coverage of many things really give you a brand new perspective on the story, It's as humbling.
Seller gave me a nasty busted up box but thankfully it's in-tact so I guess I can't complain. The box did it's job in the end.

Doesn't work properly with s8. Where mobile placed some outside view also you can see in the VR. When movies or somthing else are playing VR does not cover the full area of mobile.
