The resolution of the still images is poor by today's Point-And-Shoot camera standards, but probably as advertised in the literature.
I did a quick resolution comparison to my 10-year-old 8 MP digital camera, and I don't think you could make an 8"x10" print from the HMX-F90 that you'd be very happy with.
I photographed the page of a book from about 18" with the HFX-F90 and with the digital camera. Displayed on my PC display at the size of the book, I can read the image from the HFX-F90, but just barely. The 8 MP camera completely resolves the letters with no discernible aliasing even at several-times magnification.
Along with the low resolution, the sensor noise is even more noticeable than my other camera, which has a small detector array.
