Before I start... Let's not forget its a $148 5.1 System
-Its great for a small living room or a small bedroom.
-The sound is clear and has enough bass for its size.
-Dvd system is not bad either. Basically a some what basic Dvd player with build in amp.
-Compare to my Panasonic 50' Plasma tv speakers this 5.1 System is a 100% improvement... you know what make it 200% improvement.

The only thing that I found lacking is the rear speaker wires. Its enough for a small space and that's it, but you can always have it extended if you have the tools.

For the price Ill give it a 5 star for its simplicity to use and a great starter 5.1 system, The sound quality is really good even though the speakers are tiny it will still give you a smile.

Let's start with a disclaimer: I'm not an audiophile. But then, I assume that anyone purchasing a surround sound system for less than $200 isn't one either. I did not buy this from Amazon, but my wife purchased it for me for a Christmas present. We have a blu-ray player already so I don't anticipate using the DVD function. Setup was a snap after figuring out what to do with wires. The blu-ray is connected to the TV through HDMI and I connected the TV to the Samsung HT-E550 system using the optical audio input. I have not fine-tuned any audio settings yet, and may not since I have no idea about audio settings. I popped in my Iron Man blu-ray and changed the HT-E550 function to D.IN to see how it sounded. I think it sounded quite good. I haven't optimized speaker placement yet, but right off the bat I could hear small, detailed sounds that I would not have heard with the tv speakers or our old soundbar. The surround sound was good and did what it's supposed to (for example, as a helicopter flew in from the right side of the screen to left, I heard it first in the rear right speaker and then the left). We live in Japan and have a small living room and at medium volume, it was more than enough. If I really pumped the volume up you could feel it. Our living room here is an odd setup so our TV has to be in a corner on the left of the room and there is no way to sit centered in front of it. Because of that, it's not possible to place the speakers exactly where they should go relative to the TV and listener. Even so, I am pleased with the audio. I do not know how good the pass-through is from the blu-ray to the TV to the HT-E550. However, the blu-ray only has coaxial audio output and the HT-E550 only has optical audio input.Read more ›

When I was looking for a reasonably priced Samsung surround system, I wanted to run HDMI to my TV and also have an aux input to play an iPod through. The feature list on the HTE550 did not list all the inputs on the unit for some reason. In a web search, I found a PDF of the system manual and showed FM radio, HDMI, 2 aux inputs, one on the front of the unit for an iPod and one in the rear. Also component input and optical audio as well. So pretty much everything you need except an HDMI out, which wasn't an issue for my set-up. Overall, this is a great unit, particularly if you own a Samsung TV and can utilize the Anynet feature built-in.

I just got this unit today, and I can say wow what an improvement from my old one. For starters the sound is way sharper, and the bass is enough to shake the house. The unit is beautiful the speakers etc... look very expensive lets say, the cords have a solid plastic tip that plugs right in unlike my old unit where they used old fashioned wires with the soldered tip. The sound options are the best you can adjust the sound to your preference, and you can sync the sound to your TV if your like me, like to use both so there's no echo etc... The remote is big not to mention simple I can go on, but take my advice ignore some of the nay sayers, and just try it out I love it total upgrade on my home theater setup. I run an optical cable from my TV to the unit so everything is surround sound xbox, direct TV, blu ray, and my roku couldn't ask for more. I haven't got around to the hdmi yet because I don't want to spend $100 till then I'm more than satisfied with the optical cable. Let's be honest unless your in the woods etc... this unit is more than capable of getting the cops called on you for disturbing the neighbors. Sound is fantastic bass is just wow, and the whole look/setup of the unit is awesome. I don't think it's Bose, but then again on a poor mans budget it's pretty damn good.

i bought this system based off of reviews and you get exactly what you pay for. its very easy to set up the only problem i had at 1st was not all the speakers were working. i disconnected everything and started over and it worked fine. the plus about this system is you can adjust the bass and adjust some of the other speakers the down fall about this system is, it wasnt as loud as i expected and my apartment is pretty small. i had it boosted to 23-26 which i was expecting it to be louder considering i was watching gladiator and that has alot of action, but it just didnt hit like i expected. trust me i wasnt expecting my windows to be blown out but i did expect it to be a whole lot louder as high as i was putting it. if you are looking for something to blow your socks off and not have to put so much money into it sorry this isnt the system for you but if your looking for something decent at a good price good for it...its right up that alley. the sound is clear but not as loud as you would expect it....also you will read some of the reviews where they say the remote is confusing or the wires for the speakers are not log enough. dont listen to that, the speaker wires are pretty long but it does depend on how big your room is where your putting the system. dont expect to hook up this system in a room thats big like a 2 car garage it would work great in a single car garage if you know what i mean. the remote is fine theres nothing wrong with it. ppl just want to have something to complain about.
