The sleek, dual-colour design and the depiction of the screen nudged it over a competing Lenovo machine, which had similar specs and was available for the same price.
I set up the machine for her and I was very satisfied with the workhorse nature of the machine - the keys are solid and one can learn to touch-type on it pretty fast. The processor is fast enough and there are no "hangs" while playing movies. Sound quality on the native speakers could have been better. The machine comes with some Samsung utilities pre-loaded but not a whole lot of bloatware or junk.
I did not test out any video resource hungry games on it - given that my daughter doesn't play any of those!
Bottomline: Highly recommended for daily, standard use and media playing
generally, laptop adapters do break down relatively fast/often, and I always have a number of them around, and in different locations, so that I cut out excessive wear and tear on those fragile adapters. I have seen them get extremely hot and have meltdown after 2 weeks. But for this one, proprietary to samsung, to break down within such a short amount of time is not encouraging. (looks to the untrained eye that bad soldering was the problem.)
Three restarts later and all seemed to be fine. It has now been three months. I get random errors at least once a week. Finally I decided to do a system restore. The wireless lan connection will not load, the screen is stretched (it looks like it was on silly putty and pulled apart), and you can't dowload the plug in to watch streaming videos on netflix.
I have restored the computer 7 times now. I spent an hour on the phone with a very pissy Samsung tech support person to reinstall the wireless driver to get off the phone and find out that any software I try to load won't work. (Netflix, itunes...)
