A couple of other pluses with the Samsung is the portability - it is freaking light! It's barely heavier than my Ipad and a beautiful piece of hardware with the full metal frame unlike last year's series 9 that has plastic frame around the keyboard. The back light keyboard is not as bright and cool as the Mac Book air but it works fine with the green hue. I also compared this to a few other ultrabooks like the Asus zenbook and Dell xps13. The asus screen was just as bright but not as detailed as the Samsung, in my opinion. The dell screen was a joke. It looked like my TFT screens from college days in the late 90s. The track pads on both the Asus and the Dell were not as good as the Samsung. I know the Asus started to update their track pads with Elan but the samsung addition of Mac Book like gestures and accuracy was way better than the Asus. I also did notice a slight stutter between what I typed and what showed up on the screen with the Asus that concerned me. It was almost like a delayed entry...it was weird. The Dell was not in the same ball park as the Asus and Samsung so once I saw the crappy screen, it was out. Another random benefit is the Ethernet adapter that comes with the laptop. I used it for backing up to my NAS server and it works awesome. Thanks Samsung for the addition unlike the Mac.
The few negatives of the Samsung are the battery life and the keyboard. The battery life is about 5 hours, which is less than the Mac Book Air but the battery charges up very quickly in a short amount of time. I believe samsung advertises charges to 80% in 30 minutes - I didn't test this out exactly but did notice it was well into the 80% from a single digit level in roughly the advertised time frame. The keyboard is shallow and not as easy to type on as some of the earlier mentioned ultrabooks. This laptop is so light that I'll sit it on my lap while sitting reclined on my couch and the shallow keys in combination with the light weight form factor makes for a bouncy typing experience. That said, it's not bad and definitely gets easier as I continue to use it. On a table, it's fine. I wished they gave the keys some weight so you get a little better feel but I'm sure Samsung had to make some compromises for keeping the series 9 thin. Last weird potentially negative thing, I got the memory dump blue screen while uninstalling bloatware, norton...etc. and installing the apps that I use. I chalked it up to needing to restart after uninstalling so many apps but I chose to wait to finish installing my apps - it hasn't happened since.
Overall, this is a fantastic laptop and the best ultra-portable laptop with Mac like track pad features and bootup.
- Touchpad is not too good, it makes me headaches sometimes! just works perfectly some times, and other times not... when you do "right click" (pressing using two fingers) sometimes recognizes it, sometimes not! so you make"left click" instead "right click"... what a problem! but you will get used...
- when you turn on your laptop, sometimes your touchpad doesnt work for a while, I think it just loading that function I don't know, you just can move the cursor but you are unable for a while to use "right click (pressing the touchpad)" UPDATE: NOW I'M USING WINDOWS 8, AND THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE...
Well I have installed Windows 8 PRO... a lot of "bugs" have gone!!! everything is ok now! (related to software and some freezes) now everything is so smooth!!! faster!!! 100000% RECOMMENDED THIS UPDATE!!! just don't forget reinstall some drivers provided in samsung.com and everything will be ok!!!
Now I can rate it 5!! maybe my past Windows 7 Home Premium had problems... well now I'm very satisfied!! This computer works EXTREMELY FASTER AND SMOOTH WITH THE NEW WINDOWS 8!! Wow! you won't regret!!
Display has excellent viewing angles, color, brightness, and contrast
Performance (everyday, boot in 8 seconds, resume in a blink)
Lack of bloatware
Good WiFi connection
Keyboard is a tad shallow
SSD is a tad small, but doable
Yes I have battery in pros and cons. :) Battery life is ~6hrs, but not advertised 7-9+... Coming from a tablet, I was used to really great battery life. I think it's plenty because I'll never find myself using it for more than 5-6hrs at a time. It recharges quick, too.
