First of all, I would like to say that this monitor "is" sharp and vibrant. Maybe the other reviewer had a defective one.
Also, I didn't see 2 bars of horizontal light at the top and bottom.
The brightness is very good, you can differentiate between blacks, grays, and whites. (You can adjust the settings to your preference).
I didn't notice any lag during movie playback or gaming despite this monitor having a 5ms response time.
Build quality is decent, but not as good as higher-priced models.
Attaching the base to the monitor was fairly straightforward.
**Note - You have to push it in until you hear a slight click, but the click is very light, so you may not hear it at all.
The packaging was great, the monitor was protected very nicely.
VGA cable, Power Cord, CD, Manuals are all included.
The monitor came at a great price, and I would definitely purchase again.
Since people seem to have trouble doing some research before purchasing this monitor and then giving one stars.
Here is some basic information I thought you should know before purchasing.
Screen Resolution: 1920x1080p (Native)
Response Time: 5ms (GTG)
Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 70,000:1
Static Contrast Ratio: 1,000:1
Build: Matte Black
Inputs: ONLY VGA & DVI. There is no HDMI.
AS I said earlier: ONLY VGA Cable included. You have to purchase the DVI cable SEPARATELY.
This Samsung Monitor is great. So, give it a try and don't be discouraged by 1-star reviews.
Just make sure you do some research before you buy and you won't be surprised by things like "oh, theres no hdmi, no resolution provided, is it wall mountable etc"...
I bought two LG 23" monitors in 2010 and paid over $300 a piece, (from Frys) and they're both gone now....burned out! At the time they were high end and didn't last 2 years. I run two GTX 550 TI nVidia cards SLI and actually these monitors look better and are easier to calibrate, (through my video card interface) than the more expensive LG's! Probably why the LG's were so hard to calibrate...they were dying! :( I do video and photography production on an I7 core Win 7 64bit PC.
I bought mine from Office Max 'cause I needed them right away on a Black Friday deal. Same price as Amazon is selling them now. Bottom line, they're decent enough to do photo and video production and if they last 2 years then I'm out $240 bucks instead of $600.00. If you really expect to get high end performance then expect to pay high end prices...don't be a Craiglister expecting super high quality for free. However, the image quality is enough that it wont disappoint!
For the budget conscious bargain hunter looking for decent quality, this is a good buy!
inputs VGA DVI
Non adjustable stand
I knew this when I purchased
I bought two of these for my Digital Audio Workstation where I want a lot of real-estate to spread out my work area. I love the space I now have for spreading out my music software across two screens. Full 1080P resolution for this price? Amazing! I had 19 inch monitors before - what a huge difference! No pun intended.
These monitors come out of the box with brightness at a 100% blinding level. I was surprised, but the best setting for these is on the "Standard" setting and then adjusting the brightness back to about 25%. Yes 25%. I leave contrast on 100%, digital vibrance at 50% and gamma at 1. I made these settings via my NVIDIA control panel after setting the monitor at "Standard". I find that these monitors have excellent focus and colors really pop at these settings. I have more expensive monitors on other computers but these are just as good when setup right. I found the focus and clarity really lacking at brighter levels.
I have found no dead pixels and overall I'm very happy with these monitors for the money. They came packaged extremely well and survived UPS playing basketball with them. They were double boxed by Amazon but the inside boxes were both damaged due to poor handling. Even so - the monitors were well protected in the Samsung box.Read more ›
