Product Description
Amazon.com
Compatible with T-Mobile cellular service, Samsung's dual-frequency GSM/GPRS SGH-E715 phone includes a Web browser, digital camera, some organizing software, and a host of other useful features. The phone's cover features a 80 x 64 pixel gray scale OLED subdisplay, which remains on even when your phone is closed, to display signal strength, battery power, and the time of day.
Send or receive data through the IrDA-compliant infrared port on your PC. When a call comes in, caller ID is displayed on the outside so you can check who it is before answering. The area also displays message-received notices, and other alerts as they come in. The subdisplay also functions as a viewfinder if you want to take your own picture using the phone's 640x480 digital camera.
The camera's main lens is a rotating device that can take multiple consecutive photos at a time. You can also save the photos and send them to a friend or colleague in a text message vis MMS service. The camera includes snazzy functions such as frame setting , tone control, effects, rotation, and a self timer. It can take color, black and white, or sepia-tone pictures, and it comes with a variety of stored image templates that you can use to decorate your snapshots. There's also an LED flash, which helps provide a clear view of your subject in dim light environments.
The E715 sports 40 polyphonic ring tones, as well as many more available for download on the Web via the E715's built in Web browser. Also available for download are a variety of Java-based video games, compatible with the phone via Java MIDP version 2.0.
As an organizer, the E715 includes a 1,000 contact phonebook, a scheduler, to do list and alarm. And, its IrDA (infrared) interface enables easy, wireless phone to PC sync connection. The phone weighs 3.4-ounces.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

Regarding a couple of things I saw in other reviews: Yes, the battery life is short on the first couple of charges. This is mentioned in the manual, and isn't uncommon for Li batteries that have sat around for a couple of months. Just charge it up all the way, run it until the battery warning goes off (sounds like a doorbell chime), charge it up all the way, and you'll be fine.
The IR port: it can't talk to other phones or PDAs. It can (and does) work with the IrDA port on a Win2k or WinXP machine, and Samsung's easy GPRS software. You can use it to upload 128x128 pixel images for wallpaper, upload ringtones (I've uploaded a number of .mmf files, all work just fine), and download pictures from the camera to the PC. You can also use it as a modem, letting your computer access the net using the GPRS system-- note that unless you have the unlimited GPRS plan, you'll pay by the MB. Still, kind of nice to be able to check your e-mail from anywhere.
Pros:
Stylish, lightweight, seems pretty durable
Excellent internal and external screens
Super-easy connectivity without shelling out for a data cable (if you have IrDA on your computer)
Very customizable ringtones and wallpapers
Best phone-camera I've seen so far
Cons:
Slight buzzing noise when using the phone in a very quiet place, nothing major
Reception so-so (but that's more T-mobile than the phone, I think)
The phone comes with NO decent ringtones, if you don't want a song or the t-mobile jingle, you'll want to download a "normal" ringtone right off the bat. Some of the more annoying ringtones use the three-color LED on the front to make your phone look like a disco. Yech.
Not a tri-band, so it can't do GSM 850/1800 regions
Default settings "out of the box" seem to be designed to annoy you and everyone around you (loud t-mobile jingle ringtone, loud keypad tone, annoying flashing leds indicating service, ugly T-mobile/Catherine Zeta-Jones wallpaper).
Everybody wants to play with your phone, which can get annoying ;)
The first and foremost thing I look for in a phone is the sound quality. The sound quality of the phone is not bad. Having owned the Nokia 6610 as well I would say the Nokia phone sounds a little better but this might be because I am used to the 6610. I am sure most people will be happy with the sound quality of the E715.
The next thing is reception. Unlike the older Samsung phones this phone uses an internal antenna which works good, if not better than phones with antennas.
The camera on this phone is quite nice. There is a flash and a zoom feature which is added bonus. The 640x480 pictures taken by this phone is OK to be viewed by cell phones' smaller screens but if you view the pictures on your computer you might be disappointed.
This phone does have a 40 chord Midi capability which means you can download some good songs. For the tech savvy there is a program called Easy GPRS which can be downloaded from Samsung's European website. This program will allow you sync up your phone with your pc. The other program which I like is called PSM Play which allows you to edit midi files and convert them into mmf. files.
One useful feature which this phone does not have is speaker phone. Generally I don't like to hold the phone next to my ear, or use the ear pieces. The speaker phone on the Nokia is great for this purpose.
Another minor inconvinence with this phone is the phone's IrDa capability with your PC. As I have mentioned already you will need to download an application from Samsung Europe in order to transfer data from your PC to your Phone. With some other phones such as the Sony Ericcson T610 you can simply transfer files through Window's default program when you match your phone's infra red port with your laptop's. Of course EasyGPRS also have the ability to do many other things but sometimes I wish that I can transfer simple images/sounds directly using just windows.
Finally, the battery on this phone runs out a little faster than some other phones. If you play around with this phone often the battery will run out in a day. If you don't it will last 2-3 days.
Currently this is not the best cell phone on the market but this is definitely one of the best Tmobile GSM phones at the moment. With rebates this phone will only cost $50 which is well worth the price of cancelling your old account and starting up a new one.
