Top customer reviews
The toner lasts a very long time. By far, substantially more than inkjet ink. There is no comparison. Yes, the toner is more expensive, but it lasts 10-20 times longer.
I have not had any problems with this printer what-so-ever. It performs flawlessly. The *only* weakness it has in comparison to a high end photo inkjet printer is that it can't quite compete on that level of photo quality. (Still, using the right paper and a high resolution photo, the photo prints come out really nicely... definitely on the high end of laser color printers. If I had to compare it to a high end consumer inkjet photo printer that scored a 10, this would score an 8 in comparison)
As far as the noise, yes, it is louder than an inkjet. People are blowing this out of proportion, however. If you've ever used a laser printer at work, the noise is comparable to your typical laser printer in the office. There *are* weird bangs and clank sounds, however, these seem to be isolated and only seem to occur mostly when new toner is added. I'm sure that these are by design, as I have had the printer for over six months and it works flawlessly.
The scanner is also pretty nice. Not as good as a separate flatbed scanner, but it is typical for all in one printer scanners.
As far as the software for the printer... This printer is obviously geared a little more for the corporate world than consumers. (i.e. people with a dedicated IT department) The software isn't as user friendly (particularly during installation) as a typical consumer printer. If I had to rate the tech knowledge needed to install the printer and software from 1-10 (with 1 being a completely new computer user to 10 being an elite IT pro of the highest order), I would say you need to be a 3 with at least some basic small office/home office networking knowledge if you are going to network it. If you are going to firmware update this thing, that tech knowledge is going to need to go up to a 5. (most consumers have no need to do a firmware update, but, just FYI, you'll have to go through a web portal using the printers IP address to do this... no automated software that will do it all for you)
Overall very satisfied with this printer. I doubt I will ever go back to inkjet, and probably will keep this printer for several years.
Down falls though are that it keeps telling me over and over again that their is a mismatch in paper tray 1.... this is really frustrating when you are utilizing the app. it slightly defeats the purpose of the app , as i still have to travel to the computer to push the button to get it to print. I was also SHOCKED when it started telling me that i need to prep new ink cartridges. I honestly don't use it much and the ink lasting a long time was the biggest selling point to me. My inkjet would dry up because i didn't use it as often. I have utilized this printer a tad more than my last 1 which is a given. Who buys a 350$ printer and doesn't plan on using it... Any who... Now I'm feeling frustrated that i need to buy almost as much as i paid for the printer in ink within the first year. i don't run a home office and i print about 10 pages of either color of black and white mostly every week... 1 last little thing..it will randomly disconnect from my main computer so i have to re-synch it. I think i spelled that right... well i hope this was helpful to someone out there..... Im going to be trying to fix the little issues i have ... like the paper mismatching... and see how that goes.. I didn't have much luck last time i tried.
I have read that some people say it won't wake up from sleep. I have not had that issue. Be sure to make note of it's size. This is a monster.
I am very pleased with the machine.
