I don't know about you, I am not technologically savvy, but when I started shopping for a monitor that could pull double duty, I dug deep. I started reading articles on the web and on PC magazines that said "this brand is better then that..." I started looking at some of the numbers that were common with most of the reviews that I read, namely resolution, refresh rate, and screen size. Did I know what they were talking about? No! But because most of them were focusing on the same elements and higher numbers were better, I decided to do some research of my own. I went to local stores with some of the highest numbers and "best in class" reviews and ended up with this monitor/TV. I could have cut all this intro out just to tell you that this is the best monitor and TV combo you can get for the price and size, but I want you to know that I did my homework, and it was not easy, I spent a couple of months looking at a bunch of monitors at the local stores to finally decide on this one.
Here's the beef...
On the TV side:
This is a true 1080p TV! No upconverting (whatever that means, but from what I saw, this means no jagged edges, no blocky edges) The images from high definition TV were so clear and sharp that I almost felt Brett Favre hit me on the face with one of his passes! (Ok, I'll explain, I was sitting in front of this screen which was setup on a computer desk...it was right on my face! But the image on the screen was very impressive with true skin tones and definition)
On the PC side:
Here is were the TV's start limping when they wanna be monitors...this screen can pull a full 1920x1200! What does that mean? That's exactly what I asked a very helpful salesperson, the difference is in the details! When I switched from TV to computer monitor, I was able to see so much detail on the screen that I almost threw my plastic at the salesperson! (the only reason I didn't was because I saw a cheaper price online) The only time I've seen anything this clear and detailed was at an Apple store from one of the their stand-alone monitors...it was that good! But not only that good, it had a digital TV tuner to top it! I was sold! I had no hesitation going online and finding the best price (under $320.00) and slamming the plastic on buying this TV/monitor.
Let me tell you, if you haven't figured this by now, I am not an electronics expert, but I went around and actually looked and played with several monitors that also claimed to pull the double duty as a TV. The Samsung T240HD was the best of the lot, and I recommend this to you if you really want the best of both worlds...high definition TV and a high definition PC monitor.
If the price sounds too much for you, then go ahead and buy a high definition monitor for your PC AND a high definition (1080p) TV for the same room...if the total is less than $320, ummm, tell me were you found the deal, I'm still in the "return" policy :-)
If not, you'll be really happy with this combo TV/monitor, all in high definition!

For what I paid, this is an excellent TV/PC monitor. I got this to be my gaming computer monitor and also a small HDTV for the office and so far it has not disappointed. I have played games such as Modern Warfare 2, Bioshock, Company of Heroes, Fallout 3, etc. There is almost no visible tearing. The picture for HD cable is very good. If I had to give a downside it would be that the monitor may be a little dark but I almost never think of this issue.

This product, shipped from JR Music World, died after three days of use. We are still trying to get a replacment from Samsung. It took 4 faxes of my invoice to establish proof of purchase. Unless you give Samsung the exact time your fax was sent, they can't find it.

The replacement unit was UPS'd to the wrong location. A month has passed, and we have yet to see a working TV.

My Samsung Synchmaster T240HD LCD/HDTV has (Bought from Amazon.com) volume problems: There sometimes is NO volume from any of the broadcast (over the air) stations & usually none from the computer audio output amplifier. The touch of power (ON-OFF) switch works poorly: The remote is the only way you can reliably turn the power to this device on & off. The "Fixed" height stand is also a pain. I won't buy another product from Amazon or from Samsung-especially those made in China. The manufacturers warranty
leaves a lot to be desired.

I read all of the reviews before I bought it and compared specs and prices. I unfortunatly discovered there are some things you cant find-out on-line.

I use it as a bedroom TV not a computer monitor, which I now believe was likely it's primary design. I will confirm that the audio sound quality is poor. Some people said it was OK for a bedroom but I am dissapointed in the sound. Sounds like a cheap pocket radio. My 15 year-old 13" TV sounded much better. There is no audio output jack except a headphone jack, so no real fix is possible. No chance to hook-up to a surround sound system.

The size of the channel number and other menu displays on the screen are too small. I cant see them from my bed. My head is probably 10 feet away. Tough to use when you can't see the channel. The sleep timer does not have a dedicated button, it is three steps into a menu which again is impossible to read from any distance.

The remote is not glow-in-the-dark or lighted, so you have to memorize all the buttons. Also for some strange reason, many of the buttons you use regularly are at the bottom of the remote where you hold it with your hand; meaning you almost need two hands to press them. Not convenient.

The picture quality when used off-air use is terrible. I called the cable company and got a high-def box and now the picture is great. But I would not buy this TV if you only plan to watch it off-air.

We put the TV on a bookshelf which is higher than the bed, so we have to look-up at it. The problem is, being promarily a computer monitor, it only adjusts/aims up. It wont aim down. So I had to put a book under the back side of it. Real hiigh-tech.

Now that I am used to the poor sound, I have memorized where the buttons are, I have memorized what to press in the dark to make the sleep timer and other functions work, and now that I have high-def, I really like it.

But for a bedroom, I would look for another model.
