Sophisticated, sleek design
The UE590 is carefully designed to keep the focus on your content viewing pleasure. It comes with a stunning matte black body framed by a narrow bezel with a metallic rim, elevated by a T-shaped stand with a matching metallic touch.
Enjoy more than 1 billion colors
This UHD monitor gives you 64 times more color than conventional monitors - an incredible 1 billion colors. Movies, games, and other content appear detailed, natural looking, and ultra realistic. More colors mean you'll enjoy a richer, more accurate picture.
Easy multitasking with PIP 2.0
With Picture-in-Picture (PIP) 2.0 technology, you can watch your favorite movie or video in one window while simultaneously working on a spreadsheet. PIP 2.0 maintains the source's original resolution--up to Full HD--so you enjoy a crisp, clear picture. You can also adjust the size and position of the PIP window to fit your needs.
Connect UHD-compatible devices
Connect multiple Ultra HD devices, like PCs and gaming consoles, to the UE590. There are two HDMI inputs and a Display port input on the back panel. Enjoy upgraded HDMI support with HDMI (v2.0) that supports UHD resolution as a 60Hz refresh rate. 4K content plays smoothly without delay.
AMD FreeSync with 1ms response
With AMD FreeSync, enjoy seamless gaming visuals. It syncs the screen refresh rate with the frame rate of your content, minimizing input latency, image tearing and stutter. And with a lightning fast 1ms response time, you'll see even the fastest on-screen motion clearly.

Response Time is excellent
I was able to get 60hz on the HDMI 2.0 port 2
color is vibrant, integrated game mode is okay
built very sturdy, nice firm stand (a market rarity in this price range), TN panel is resistant to shock and heat.
Some LED backlight bleeding out of box
HDCP 1.4 Compliant as opposed to the current HDCP 2.2 standard, so streaming HDCP 2.2 compliant content (netflix included) and some UHD blu-rays in full quality is impossible, as the 1.4 standard forces the content to return to 1080p quality. I spent 2-3 hours on the phone with netflix tech support before we determined this issue. This should be made clear in the tech specs! Dishonest marketing. So essentially my unit is dead-weight for streaming UHD content. Be Warned. Also the price is competitive yet roughly the same as newer monitors on the market. This should be changed to reflect the age of the model (2014).
Works perfect as the center monitor in a 3 monitor setup (I have the 3 monitors on 1 graphics card). If you do 3 monitors on 1 card, give the card/windows10 about 1/2 an hour to fully adjust before trying to tweak settings. That's about how long mine took, and it drove me bonkers messing with resolutions and colors as it adjusted itself around me. It REFUSED to go into 60hz no matter what I did (stuck at 30hz), til whatever background configuring completed itself (again, wait 1/2 an hour before freaking out and messing all your colors/resolution up).
The monitor comes with BOTH HDMI and Displayport cables. This was nice... some monitors don't come with any cables at all, let alone 2. The biggest surprise for me was just how TINY 3840x2160 actually displays text. I think if you leave it at that setting, you will eventually go blind or develop premature wrinkles from squinting to read the teensy text. I had to set the Text Size to 200% and even then it's a strain. Actually a nice problem to have, because I still have tons of screen real estate left, and I can push the monitor more than 36" away so I can pretend my eyeballs aren't getting irradiated.
The stand... I like the long flat silver bar, I can butt 2 speakers (or 4) right up to it in a neat line. My Viewsonic and BenQ monitors have rounded bases, where I can't do that, so are much more space wasting, even though they may be less obtrusive because they are black, not silver. Also, I can see that if you are setting the monitor on a flat desk, you may want to adjust it, and you can't with this monitor. My desk has a raised monitor stand, and it's like the monitor was designed for desks with a monitor stand. But 28" is a big monitor, so viewing angle isn't that much an issue (and the Samsung lets you adjust for viewing angle too in the menu). You could make a stand for it if you need to. I think if they made the stand adjustable, it would be less secure.
There was a time when a "Samsung Monitor" was a big office status because they were pricey and the very best monitor money could buy. I remember when my Samsung CRT monitor was delivered (um, some time ago), and the UPS guy kept ringing my doorbell (he knew I was home and not answering the door), because "a Samsung monitor could get stolen". This impressed me because he didn't seem to mind dumping off my other computer components on the porch around the same time, rain or shine, without bothering with the doorbell at all. I tend to be a bit cheap, so the fact that this is both a Samsung and hit my price point makes me even happier. It's been a while since my last Samsung monitor *YAY*.
Would I buy this again? Oh heck yeah. At a bit north of $300 for a 28" 4K SAMSUNG monitor? It's a nobrainer, you'll love it.
But three words of caution:
1. The stand is a disaster. NO ADJUSTMENTS. At all. And the way it sits on the desk breaks all ergonomic rules. The top edge of the screen is at 17'' - that's my chin level. Being low, it feels like it leans on you, you want to tilt it and - again, no adjustments!
2. The Vesa mount is placed on the very top. Good 4 inches higher than usual. I bought North Bayou Full Motion Desk Mount in hope. But the location of VESA mount is such that the top hight is still 17''! So if you think Monitor Mound will help you, choose the mount carefully.
3. Double-check if your computer specs to ensure it's capable of 4K output. My MacBook Pro performs great. My Macbook Mini 2013 does not do well: I couldn't even make 2K work on it. It's not a monitor problem, but quick check may save some frustrations.
I am returning it for spending substantial time with this setup is a health issue.
PS. Think twice if you really need 4k. Depending what you do. I learned that MacOS on 28'' 4K screen is an overkill: 2560x1440 (aka 2K) is the best balance. The Samsung U28E590D delivers great picture at this resolution, but I am returning it for ergonomic reasons and will find a better deal for 2K screen.
