Bought this drive for a new 5960 Asus X99 build. Had to search all over he** and back to figure out how to install Windows 7 X64 on this thing. Needed to make a special Win7 GPT partition bootable USB key and set the right parameters in the BIOS to boot in UEFI mode. Once this was correctly configured and Windows was installed now the drive reads and writes around a 1 Gig a second!
I kept trying to find the MBR hook in the BIOS to show that the drive was connected and working. Turns out that is not how UEFI works as it is BIOS independent. No need for the BIOS to find the boot sector on the drive and hand control to the os. I may not being saying this correctly, but it is bootable.

I bought this drive hoping to use it's fantastic speed as a boot drive.
Now I know that cannot be unless I am willing to buy another motherboard.

I have as a motherboard an Asus Z97-WS.
I find out from Asus's website that this drive can run on the motherboard only as part of a raid configuration.
Now I do not want to spend that kind of money getting another similar drive.
So if you want to buy a drive like this then you have to carefully research the documentation.
You can run this drive in a pcie slot with an adapter card a M2P4A which can be purchased here on Amazon
I plan on selling this drive here on Amazon. The drive is still in it's OEM packaging.
Update 0.06/03/2014
I notice on the Asus web site for the Z97-WS that they have a new bios.
One of the changes to the bios refers to m.2 ssd's.
I have downloaded the bios and I going to try and load Windows 7 and then try and boot from the m.2 ssd.

Took a chance and squeezed the xp941 500 GB PCIe Samsung SSD chip into my new HP zbook 17inch mobile workstation
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00O072782
as a windows 8.1 boot disk. PCIe delivers a major boost to SSD performance compared to SATA3.
Been working great for a couple of weeks now. HP makes great high-end laptops.

The zbook K4K44UT#ABA was ordered on sale from HP with a single mechanical 2.5" 1 TB 7200 RPM drive and DVD burner. The DVD was replaced by a 2.5" disk caddy
http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=556&
holding the factory 1 TB mechanical drive. A 1TB Samsung evo SSD and a 150GB Patriot Wildfire SSD were installed in the two easily accessible 2.5" drive bays to total four internal drives in this capable i7-4810MQ@2800MHz HP zbook 17inch G2 mobile workstation with 16GB DDR3. BIOS M70 ver 01.02.

The zbook can be ordered with an M.2 PCIe boot SSD - 20mmx60mm 256GB Z Turbo pictured incorrectly at the bottom left of page 15 of document 4AA5-4884ENW. The price of one of these 250GB chips, if you can find them, is about $500 from HP parts depot. At the time I installed this you couldn't buy a 500GB from HP. If you could the cost would be north of $700.

You take a chance of voiding your warranty with this "unsupported" 500 GB Samsung PCIe SSD from Amazon (install at your own risk) for $500.
