Misleading - You can only get the claimed 170MB/s read speed with a Sandisk UHS-1 USB Card Reader as it utilizes proprietary technology to go above UHS-1 speeds.

With a Delkin USB 3.0 Multi-Card reader that supports UHS-II; this card gets 92MB/s read and 84MB/s write.
With my Surface Book 2 built-in SD card slot, this card gets 98MB/s read and 75MB/s write

I was surprised to find this card for the same price as the Extreme Pro 95MB/s that had been available for a while. Almost double the read speed for the same price? Awesome! Not so fast there...

If you read the fine print on SanDisk's website or the product packaging you'll see that it requires proprietary technology to achieve the full 170MB/s read. Otherwise it maxes out at around standard UHS-I speeds of 90MB/s read, 80MB/s write. (It's called a standard for a reason.)

At first I thought my laptop's integrated card reader just wasn't up to par so I tried an external one, same results. It seems the only device capable of achieving these speeds is SanDisk's own USB 3.0 card reader, and other certified/participating devices (which so far includes nothing else). Normally I'd be upset about this but, at the time of writing, this model is almost the exact same price as the 95MB/s model, only a few cents higher. So I can't really complain, it's not like I was swindled out of more money, it's basically the same price, with the potential ability to read and write faster should you purchase their USB card reader. I'm giving it three stars because it is misleading to boldly print 170MB/s, when that's not achievable by 99% of customers. Otherwise, so far it seems like a fine card, as long as it doesn't suddenly die I may bump it up to 4 stars in the future.

Sandisk Extreme Poo cards.

New: 2 more of these cards are splitting open. The faceplate that says Sandisk on it is coming off of the card and jams in both cameras and readers. The faceplate is what captures the lock switch, so when it peeled back, the lock on one card fell out, fortunately not into a camera. Sandisk customer service, without even seeing the cards, said, "Normally this is considered to be physical damage due to mishandling which is not covered under SanDisk warranty." "Normally"? How often is this happening, and to how many users? I've never had a PNY or Transcend card come apart and they are going into and out of the same cameras and cases, and I've been using the other brands longer than Sandisk. Sandisk is supposed to be a top brand, but these cards just don't cut it. They should change the name to Extreme Poo.

Prior review. This is a downgrade from my prior 5 star review. While the card was working, it was great. However, while pulling it out of my Pelican card case, I noticed that the sd card's case was splitting open along the seam (sort of like a book opening). I was in the field and it was my last card, so I put a tiny amount of superglue on it and re-sealed the case. The card worked fine for another month or so, then failed - none of my cameras could see it, and it wasn't locked. I contacted Sandisk and they said that because I glued it back together, I voided the warranty. That really shouldn't matter, because glue or no glue, the case cracked open, and they claim these are super-durable. I've never had a Transcend or PNY card fail, so will be going with them in the future

Unknown Part Number? "New Gen" made in Malaysia. Is it worth it? Full Review!

This product review is for the 128Gb - New Gen Model.

The product seems to be accurate to others. Non yellow tab indicates not a fake card at first glance. However, this does not seem to be an issue with the "New Gen" cards though.

Product has non-embossed label on the back labeled "Made In Malaysia".

The only thing that throws me for a loop is the part number. The only thing that makes sense is that this card is NOT a US market card, which could very well be why some people have issues with US market cameras. I would highly suggest formatting the card before first time use. I 'scoured' the SanDisk website, going through different regions, and couldn't seem to find the SDSDXXY-128G-GN4IN model number. My "google-foo" also doesn't really reveal any hard evidence of it being a legitimate model number. The only legitimate model numbers I can accurately find are in between what this card represents, which are the following: SDSDXXG-128G-GN4IN, SDSDXXY-128G-ANCIN, & SDSDXXG-128G-ANCIN. Also, oddly enough, even Singapore (in Malaysia) doesn't carry the model number.

Are we all getting duped, who knows? Do they work, seems to be hit or miss. Is it worth the hassle, probably not. Which is why I'm giving this 3 stars.

Will do some further testing to verify it they actually work as advertised. If not, I'll stop being a cheap-o and just fork out the mulah for actual retail ones.

Update 12/5/19
Ok, I'm back. I decided to order a couple US market versions of these cards from Best Buy (black Friday sale was actually cheaper than this Amazon version). The model number is obviously different. The packaging is different as well. The card comes in a combination of the 'old gen' cardboard packaging with the 'new gen' plastic sleeve w/ pull plastic inserted, sandwiched between the cardboard. As pictured, the 'new gen' model here comes in that kind of sleeve, but in an actual box.

Interestingly enough, both the Best Buy and 'new gen' Amazon cards are IDENTICAL. Same alphanumeric combo written on the back and both say "Made In Malaysia".

After testing all the cards, they all produce the same read/write speed. It's VERY important to note that to get max performance out of these cards, it is crucial you use a USB 3.0 input with an UHS-I compatible reader.

Regardless if these Amazon cards are knock-offs or not, the new gen appear to be identical to the US market cards, and they perform the same. Therefor, I'm bumping up to 4 stars. Minus one star for having a weird part number that seems to be illegitimate, and for the fact that despite all this research, you can actually go for the peace of mind and get the US market card for the same price during certain times of the year. Take your pick.

En revanche, cette nouvelle gamme de 170 Mo/s a exactement la même vitesse que l'anciennce gamme dite 95 Mo/s... Alors pourquoi avoir changé la dénomination. D'autant qu'en réalité les vitesses sont toujours plus basses.

Das kann doch nicht wahr sein! Laut den Kundenbildern soll diese Karte im Test eine Schreibgeschwindigkeit von 77.99 MB/s haben. Von Wegen !!!
Ärgere mich dass ich 2 Karten diesen Typs bestellt habe 😡😡😡

Meine Kamera GH5 zeichnet mit einer Datentatte von 400Mbit/s auf = 50MB/s daher habe ich mir diese Karten 2x gekauft !
Leider wird die Aufnahme nach 22sec gestopt mit der Abzeige:

„ Laufbildaufnahme der Kamera wurde aufgrund begrenzter Schreibgeschwindigkeit der Speicherkarte abgebrochen“

Was soll der Mist !!!! Nicht mal 50MB / s packt die Karte ! Was für eine Mogelpackung !!!! Finger weg !!!!

Seit paar Jahren nutze ich mit voller Zufriedenheit die 128GB Version der Sandisk Extreme pro mit 95MB/s. Aktuell gab es die 170MB/s Version deutlich günstiger. OK, fast doppelter Lesespeed, warum nicht. 4 Karten für meine GH5 bestellt und das Entsetzen folgte. Die Karten passen nicht mehr korrekt in den SD Card Schacht der GH5. Die Karten sind minimal dicker oder breiter wie bisher. Das führt dazu dass die Karten schon mit mehr Druck in den SD Schacht der GH5 müssen und jetzt wirds gefährlich. Der Schnappmechanismus in der Kamera funktioniert wegen den anderen Ausmaßen der Karten nicht mehr richtig. Das ist beim einsetzen schon problematisch, da dadurch das beschreiben der Karte behindert werde könnte aber richtig gefährlich wird es beim entfernen der Karte. Oder besser beim Versuch. Der Schnappmechanismus gibt die Karte nicht mehr zuverlässig frei! Wenn er es macht, "ploppt" die Karte aber nicht wie andere einfach ein Stück heraus, sondern bleibt stecken. Man bekommt sie nur mit spitzen Fingernägeln oder Pinzette heraus. Wenn der Schnappmechanismus des SD Card Schachtes aber klemmt, hat man einen Fall für das Panasonic Repair Center! Unfassbar was SANDISK hier verbockt hat. Ich habe bei Amazon als Verkäufer gekauft, also kein windiger Drittanbieter. Weil es könnten auch Fälschungen sein, aber der Aufdruck an dem man das erkennt scheint das nicht zu bestätigen oder die Fälscher haben sich "verbessert". Selbst an meinem Notebook höre ich beim einsetzen und entfernen der Karte ein deutliches schleifen am SD Card Schacht und es ist schwergängiger. So muss ich vor dieser Karte leider dringend warnen! Auch die "neuen" 95MB/s Versionen haben dasselbe Problem.
