You not only pay a premium for this external hard drive but also allow thieves, robbers and crooks into your iphone as noticed by the attached software agreement for the app to allow using this. It will upload certain unspecified data to the company and also let ads into your phone ad nauseum. Avoid like a plague.

The idea is a good one, but it does not fulfill the promises of the product description. Using on an iPhone 7Plus running latest iOS (11.4). The phone recognized the drive and promoted download of the app. App runs, drive recognized. It’s the actual backing up of my photos (which is why I bought this) where the unit fails miserably. The full backup acted like it was happening, but had copied no photos after it said it was complete. Ran it again, copying 756 photos. 20 minutes pass of leaving the app active (can’t leave the app...if you do it pops up a notification reminding you to return to the app so it can run the backup) still no progress.
So I tried to just download 2. It took almost 3 minites, but it downloaded 2.
At this point I removed the unit, reatarted my phone and tried again. No difference.
It is faster to turn on my computer and back up my photos there than it is to use this unit.
I’m going to surf Sandisk support to see if I find any options, but likely Inwill return this for refund. Disappointed also because I have always liked Sandisk SD cards and flash drives; they failed on this product though.

Super Device Works Well But With Serious Glitch

This drive works VERY well, but with serious glitches. As of late April, 2017, SanDisk says it's working to fix its app to address it.
Here's the problem: the app displays only a fraction of the photos you want to copy. You'll scroll through screens of black with only an occasional thumbnail here and there. (See Photo below)

Good news: The photos ARE there. Just tap on the black part of the screen and then more photos under that date will appear. Scroll, tap black, scroll, tap black. More photos WILL appear. It's a pain, but it's a work around. (Side note: It required two live chat sessions online with SanDisk tech support and two more phone calls to finally find a tech support agent who knew about this temporary solution. Not all their agents know about it.)

I went ahead and did a test transfer of nearly 700 photos and videos. They transferred seamlessly in less than 5 minutes. The phone rang in the middle of it and I took a call. The app resumed where it was when I hung up. (Or, maybe it continued in the background.)

UPDATE: Bad News: If you use Auto Backup to backup your iPhone day after day, it jumbles the photos with seemingly random names. Nothing is in order. PLUS: It strips away all GPS Location information out of the metadata. This is a major drawback and the reason I'm lowering my review. It's a complete mess to reorganize hundreds of photos I took on a trip.

Next test: plug iXpand into USB port on my iMac. (NOTE: This is the most difficult USB plug I've ever had. It's VERY difficult to plug into the USB slot.) All the photos were there. Again, it worked just as advertised.

Last test: I transferred some videos from my iMac to the iXpand, then plugged iXpand into my iPhone 6s and the videos played perfectly. (Note: You must view them through the iXpand app.)

The app is easy to understand.

ANNOYANCE: Every single time you plug the iXpand into your phone it will pop up a message asking for permission to communicate with your phone. There seems to be no way to get it to 'remember' that permission and stop that pop-up.
APP NOTE: There are two SanDisk iXpand apps in the iTunes app store. Only "SanDisk iXpand Drive" works with this hook-shaped version of iXpand. There is another app called "SanDisk iXpand Sync" which is for a different model.

Doesn't Work With iPhone X

Bought this for my iPhone X, plugged it in, but kept getting a "Failed to Connect" message. I got on SanDisk's online chat and after a half-dozen pointless (as it turned out) questions, the technician told me this was a known issue and to return it to Amazon for credit. Well, it works fine with my iPad Mini and with my wife's iPad Air so I'm going to keep it. I've been buying SanDisk products for as long as they've been around and this is the first time I've ever been disappointed. If you own an iPhone X, don't make the same mistake I did.

Big disappointment. Flash drive was working just fine on very short time, but then at one point started to hang up in the backup process. Contacting to Sandisk tech support is a torture: they are very polite and "understand" the inconvenience and then keep calling you asking for the proof of issue, then logs, then pictures again, then logs again until I gave up on getting help from them and asked to stop calling me anymore. I think their philosophy is pretend that they can help and make you forget to call them next time to avoid annoying questions .
Great idea, but VERY BAD PRODUCT and SUPPORT. I am not recommending this product. It's just waste of time and money.

Bought the 128gb less than a month ago and am heartbroken to report that the flash drive is not showing up on my mac laptop, my husband's laptop, my tv or my iphone 6. I just spent half an hour googling ways to fix this thing and another 30 min chatting w/ amazon tech support. OHHHH. Whhyy????? I chose "SanDisk" because out of the dozens of similar generic looking products, I recognized this brand. But to my shame and stupidity. I'm so upset. I just moved a bunch of my kids home videos to save room on my laptop and iphone. I am feeling really low. I would prefer to recover the data before I mail it back to amazon so I'll need to spend another hour reading yelp reviews for tech support here in L.A. who might be able to handle such a thing--though I fear that's a waste of time because this thing is probably dead dead dead. But I'll probably do it anyway and pay $100 or more. It was great for the three weeks it lasted. But I would never buy this again or from this brand again. I feel like a limb's been cut off or something.... If you don't want your heart sink, don't buy this thing!

Ich habe direkt zwei von den 64GB Flash-Laufwerken gekauft, weil sie gerade hier im Angebot waren.
Meine Frau hat ein 6s und ich ein 8plus.
Beide haben wir den Cloud-Speicher ausgereizt und mögen kein Modell bei dem wir monatlich bezahlen müssen, um mehr Speicher zu bekommen. Außerdem haben wir schon lange nach einer Möglichkeit gesucht, schnell und einfach Fotos vom iPhone sichern zu können und dann eben auch auf anderen Geräten zu speichern, zu bearbeiten, usw.
Ich war allerdings sehr skeptisch, weil ich hier einige sehr negative Rezensionen gelesen habe. Vorweg: nichts davon kann ich nun bestätigen, im Gegenteil.

Das alles funktioniert mit dem Flash-Laufwerk sehr gut.
Die App ist schnell installiert und erklärt sich selbst. Es gibt immer wieder Hilfen, wie man welches Feature bedient und nutzt. Beim ersten Sichern aller Fotos hat es natürlich etwas länger gedauert. Jetzt aber geht es sehr schnell, weil immer nur die neuen Fotos auf dem Laufwerk hinzugefügt werden. Man man möchte werden die gesicherten Bilder auch direkt vom iPhone gelöscht um sofort wieder mehr Speicher zur Verfügung zu haben.

Bei uns beiden funktioniert alles wie beschrieben. Sichern, kopieren, alle Funktionen der App und auch das hin und her mit anderen Geräten (z. B. iPad, Mac oder PC).
Das Laufwerk ist schön klein, verschwindet in der Hosentasche. Unterwegs kann man auch direkt darauf aufnehmen, also Fotos und Filme sofort auf den Flash-Speicher laden. So bleibt der iPhone interne Speicher leer.

Insgesamt macht das Gerät einen stabilen Eindruck. Die Stecker an beiden Enden passen gut und stramm auf das entsprechende Gegenstück, nichts wackelt.

Diesen Speicher würden wir sofort wieder kaufen und können ihn sehr gut empfehlen.

Disappointing

Quite a neat looking device that once plugged in requests that you download an app in order to proceed. This worked as expected with an automatic update to the software. It looked straightforward by giving you two options. I chose photos, selected the ones i wanted and it soon started to download them. Unfortunately it did not download them all and i had to subsequently and individually select the folders and the photos that had been missed the first time round (Sandisk call them 'Albums' - the other option).
I started with 100% charge on the phone but this soon ran out and i needed to re-charge, a difficulty as it does not liked being removed from the phone before it's finished (why?). It does not appear to automatically download any videos either.
It does not visually indicate the deletion process from the phone so should you remove it before complete(no indication?) in order to recharge - that is a problem!. Nor does it indicate the status of storage of the phone or the flash drive whilst doing its work; all the things i would have expected for the price paid.

Does everything I had hoped it would and is easy to use

It took a little while and some experimentation, but having worked out how best to use the ixpand flash drive I am really pleased with how well it works. It was a present for my non technically minded friend, who, once I had set up everything, sent me an email saying - The flash disk gadget is amazing, I am absolutely delighted with it.
The 64GB flash drive has solved all her storage and back up problems and provided me with an easy way to let her have copies of photographs taken during our outings together. We both find the flash drive very easy to use. It plugs in securely and neatly into the ipad and just three basic commands appear on the Home Page when using the APP. These are 'Copy Files', 'View Files' and 'Back up and restore'. There is also a little cog symbol in the top right hand side of the App's Home Page page that if clicked leads you to online help and support.
Here are some things I discovered that others might find useful. When the flash drive is first plugged into your Apple ipad or iPhone you are given the option to use automatic backup to back up your photo library, music and contacts list. This seemed to us a good idea and, as my friend didn't have many photos and only seven videos everything was backed up very speedily, the end result though disappointed us. In hind sight it wasn't a good choice, choosing to manually copy the photos and videos we wanted to back up was, I discovered, a much better option.
Automatically backing up our music files and contact list worked well. There were however two problems with using automatic back up for photos and videos. The first problem was that automatic backup doesn't copy your albums it copies your camera roll so when you come to look at your photos you will find they are split up into lots of different dated folders with names that mean very little. Strangely too, we found the photos themselves weren't visible until I had used the flash drive on my computer and chosen to view them as large icons. The other downside to automatic backup was that, so the backup process doesn't take too long, all the backed up photos were compressed slightly. This doesn't really matter when you view them on your ipad or iPhone as they will still look ok on those but it is not ideal if, for example, you decided to use them to create an A4 sized print.
The best way to back up videos and photos is, I think, to use the Copy Files option. Doing this allows you to copy files from your ipad/iphone to the flash drive or from the flash drive to your ipad/iphone.
If you choose to copy photos from your ipad/iphone, you can either click on 'photos' and tick the photos you want to copy or click on 'albums' and click 'select all' to copy all the photos in an album. It is then possible to create a folder on the flash drive, click 'copy here' and all the selected photos go in the created folder. They are not compressed and appear at full size. For this reason it is probably best not to try to copy too many photos at once and best to copy videos seperately from photos. The end result - Being able to view your files as albums in folders is, I believe, much better than viewing them in lots and lots of seperate folders, arranged according to the date when a photo was taken.
Using the ixpand flash drive on a computer is very easy as, when plugged into a USB socket, the flash drive functions just like a normal USB memory stick. I chose to copy and paste albums of photos from my computer into the Photos folder of the flash drive and copy and paste videos into the videos folder of the flash drive. It was then just a matter of plugging the drive into the ipad and choosing View files to see them on that.
The flash drive was purchased at a very good price as I was able to buy it via one of Amazon's special lightning deals.
